L and W are both friendly, knowledgeable Luthiers who take the time to answer my questions and fix my gear up in a timely careful manner. A safe and welcoming environment, can't recommend highly enough :)
The wall is life, the wall has it all.(particularly if you have a warm spot in your soul for offsets). The repair shop not only does excellent work, they are unafraid to give you all the info and time you need to think before making any decision. In addition to helping me get my first bass years ago, every thing I've ever learned about pedal boards I've learned from Johnny. Beyond the 5 star service... this is more than a stop it's an Oakland hub and community staple that holds itself to the values on it's walls. So come visit, unless you're lame. Then please don't.
What can you say about this shop that hasn't been said? I don't know why you would ever enter a big box music store while this place exists. I've been coming here regularly for a while and have spent enough money here to say that the shop takes keeping the place welcoming seriously, that integrity is just as important to them as fair prices, and they all know their stuff and would never be snobby about it. One time I was here and a musician made sure I bought his pedal he'd just sold to the shop. Today I ran into him back at the shop while he bought a new amp and got to tell him how much I liked the pedal. That's a community vibe you won't get in a mail order world.
I Love this place !!! Back in 2017 I happened in after a Kaiser appointment and dontcha know they had a kick-ass Blueridge Super Jumbo on the wall that played like a great dream, sounded fantastic, and as it happened was really reasonably priced. Well after that I’d happen through for strings or to see if there was a guitar or pedal I might want-each time it was a friendly welcoming shop with all the perfection a neighbourhood guitar store is supposed to have- that vibe that dies at Guitar Center ;-) Not long ago my dear Ma made her final crossing (RIP) and with the bequest left me I bought a bunch of guitars and gear I had always wanted. Enter Deadnote Repairs ! They have setup a few guitars for me and done the best job- even managed to tame the Bigsby on a Gretsch I bought and get the thing to stay intonated and in tune (Small miracle) I’ve found them a joy to work with, very knowledgeable and professional, and when it comes to ability they punch way above what you might think their weight class would be: Currently Lexi a Luthier on staff there is tricking out a Guild 12 string for me. My wish was to have a 12er in the vein of the legendary ES335 12 that Alembic built for David Crosby. As it happens Lexi worked many years for Turner-the mastermind behind that and other memorable builds, and she is doing up my 12 with expertise not available at many other shops. I highly recommend Oakland Guitars for all things GAS and just whatever a beginning intermediate or advanced player might ever need
