As a mom of a daughter with Tourette Syndrome, I can’t say enough about the impact Parkinson’s Boxing in Tonawanda has had on her life. Training with Dean every Saturday has reduced her tics, boosted her confidence, and helped her feel stronger and calmer. The coaches are incredibly supportive and treat everyone like family. What started as a hopeful experiment has become one of the best decisions we’ve ever made — this place has truly changed her life!
Since joining Parkinson’s Boxing at the Hamburg location, I have had the privilege of working with a majority of the trainers. They are all very professional, treat you with respect and truly care about your progress. Don’t let the name be deceiving. It’s not like you get in the ring and box against another participant. If you are skeptical, give it a try it truly can’t hurt. You also get the chance to meet and talk to other individuals who have the same disease as you. I only wish they had a location in Florida so I could attend sessions there over the winter while being a “snowbird”.
I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in July 2023. Both the neurologist and physical therapist recommended boxing as an exercise that would ward off the progression of Parkinson’s disease. Since that time I have been to three facilities that offer a boxing program for PD. Two were in Florida and were group classes. Exercises that were offered were “one size fits most” which we all know is never true. What separates Parkinson’s boxing from the other two programs I attended was the individual attention. I work one on one with a coach at Parkinson’s boxing. The program is tailored to me and my abilities. All of the coaches are friendly and dedicated to helping me fight this disease. I highly recommend.
Parkinson’s Boxing has been life changing for me. I was diagnosed almost 6 years ago and started at Parkinson’s Boxing in March of 2022. My trainer Zach Bauer is amazing and in my opinion the absolute best trainer. I am not only stronger, my balance is improved and I can now jump rope and run. When I leave after a workout I feel physically and mentally uplifted. Every trainer I’ve come in contact with is supportive, upbeat and great to be around. If possible I’d give Parkinson’s Boxing 10 stars
I can't stress enough the benefits of this program. i was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2022 and I have been going to the Hamburg facility for over a year. Like others, I arrived dependent on a cane to get around and almost no stamina to walk more than a dozen feet before I had to rest. With the guidance of my instructors (Zach/Jake/Ben) I have regained mobility (no cane), increased my stamina to walk two miles, and significantly improved my balance. Sessions are 1 on 1, and tailored to the specific needs of the client - including adjusting for "off hours" which is a real challenge with this disease. PD is a huge mental and physical challenge every day; the knowledgeable and positive instructors offer a lifeline of hope. Thank God we have this awesome resource in WNY.
