Beautiful Classical Pilates studio located in the Diamond Head neighborhood, a short bike ride/long walk from Waikiki. Group classes are limited to 6 people, and organized by levels. If you're new to Classical Pilates you'll need to take Foundation and ask for approval for Intermediate and higher level classes. They also offer "Open studio" Instructor supervised seasions where you work out on your own. Tip: there's not always someone at the front desk so try emailing or texting if you need a quick response.
Best studio on island for classical Pilates. All the instructors are extremely knowledgeable and have completely transformed my body. I have scoliosis, and even as a yoga instructor with great body/alignment awareness, am unable to catch myself in what I think is square, level, or certain muscles engaging or not. Pilates O’Kala instructors are so expertly trained to call these out to me and even my chiro I’ve been seeing for years has noticed a huge difference in my posture and scoliosis. I am so grateful!
My mom & I have Been going to Pilates o ka la for several months now and WE LOVE IT. Not only do I feel more physically stronger, but have also noticed that some of my chronic pain (that I’ve hard for years) has diminished :) We love using the various equipment they have including the reformer, Cadillac, mat, and chair. We do duo classes with suz and she is the best!!! Always tailoring our sessions to our needs & explaining exercises in a way that’s easy for us to understand.
I was initially nervous about joining a group Pilates class with friends and wanted to get some private lessons beforehand so I wouldn't embarrass myself. In my search for a studio, I found Pilates O Ka La, which offered a beginner's special: three private classes for $285. While my initial attempts to contact the studio for more information by phone and email were not helpful. No one contacted me or responded back. I was alittle irritated by it. Everything changed once I booked my first private lesson. My assigned instructor, Suz, was fantastic. She was incredibly flexible around my availability to attend sessions, very communicative, and responded quickly. During our sessions, Suz was clear and concise in explaining the different techniques and positions on the traditional equipment. I learned so much and was definitely sore afterwards—especially in my core! I recommend this special to anyone new to pilates. It's one of the more affordable options for private sessions compared to other studios I researched. The main studio location is also a great space: it's very clean, spacious, and the equipment is well-maintained with little wear and tear. They also provide towels and water for everyone to use. Parking is directly in front of the building, roughly 3 or 4 stalls available and assign to Pilates O Ka La. Note: they have a second location up the block, but I have not use that facility during any of my visits.
Even in Hawaii, the Pilates practice continues! I’m so happy to have found Pilates O Ka Lā, where they teach the classical Pilates order with such expertise. The studio is beautiful, and the view of Diamond Head makes it even more special.
