I was frustrated with their system of “quoting” versus “estimating,” which felt unclear and confusing. I called to book a plumber to locate a leak at my property and was advised that someone would attend the following day to come out and quote for the job. Shortly after, I received a text stating that the plumber would inspect the job and then provide an estimate. If we did not wish to proceed, he would leave us with a “quote” to consider, but we would still be charged $125 for his time on site. The text also stated that if we cancelled within 12 hours of the appointment time, the $125 fee would still apply. Because the wording was confusing, I replied asking whether they were actually providing a quote before finding the leak and whether there was a standard hourly rate. Unfortunately, I did not receive a response until the following morning, by which point I was within the 12-hour cancellation window and unable to cancel without being charged. The plumber who attended was lovely; however, the “estimate” provided was still not a firm quote and ranged from $555–$855. He also mentioned that it often ends up closer to $1,000 if additional equipment is required. For comparison, I had received two other quotes from different plumbers—$225 and $550—both fixed prices. The on-site visit itself was very brief (no longer than five minutes). He looked at the water meter, noted that the dial was spinning, and then said he would return to his van to prepare an estimate. Given that this was already known and the reason I had called in the first place, it felt like this estimate could have been provided over the phone rather than charging a $125 site fee. On the plus side, they did turn up on time, and the plumber was friendly and honest in his communication. Overall, they are definitely at the higher end of the pricing scale. Be aware that their pricing structure is based on estimates rather than fixed quotes, which may not suit everyone.
Plumbdog is a very well-organised and professional company. After calling them on Sunday morning, I received a confirmation text and they arrived right on time. James was very trustworthy and professional. He carefully checked the problem, explained everything clearly, and provided a quote before starting the work. He did an excellent job fixing the blocked kitchen sink and made sure everything was clean afterwards. He even cleaned inside the sink and left the area very tidy. I felt so relieved once the sink was working properly again. Thank you so much for the great service!
Recently we had Evan from Plumbdog come and sort a problem we’ve put up with for years. We had uninsulated water pipes thru the roof space making our cold water super hot for many mins during summer. Evan was very efficient getting a quote for us and on the day of the work, arrived when expected and got it done in less time than quoted. Very pleasant to talk to and happy to recommend.
