I have to agree with reviwer Ernesta Morris on this and couldn't figure out how to reply to you tag wise, but wish that you didn't have to experience that at a place that associates with Buddhist philosophies either, as sadly this is a common theme with women I know that are involved with social justice, or are from a variety of different backgrounds that are nit stereotypically privileged. I didn't feel comfortable at this center either unfortunately and after dealing with some pretty strange behavior too, over time, I called it finally too with the priveledge white male supremecy behaviors still. It is sad as the ties to sexual assault cases that the founding members perpetuated doesn't necessarily help. Not all centers are like this and, Plum Village has a history of social activism and restorative justice oriented practice and in that way, conguency that I feel is so valueable nowadays in our climate of prioritizing money over safety and manipulation over transparency. I myself love the centers and communities that walk the walk not just talk the talk in addressing these matters as it can be done respectfully. I have tried several times, and this hindered safety fir me there too as it felt incongruent. Sending healie heart to you Ernesta for going through this and sending support for everyone else who noticed this also❤️🩹💫
Such a welcoming environment for a meditation novice such as myself. I recommend checking out their weekly public sittings if you’re new to practice.
No big deal. crazy wisdom abides. just come sit and be open😌 Find others in community. family day 1st Sunday of each month. pls rsvp on website calendar. Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche brought Buddhism from Tibet founding Naropa University and establishing the Shambhala Training method. Among his contributions are the introduction of the Vajrayana teachings to the West, and a presentation of the Buddhadharma largely devoid of ethnic trappings.
The Shambhala Meditation Center of Seattle has been an incredibly helpful resource in my life. I loved it when I first stepped in the doors for an open house about 12 years ago and I still sit with the friendly community almost every week. If you’re looking for a non-judgmental place to come practice meditation no matter what your beliefs or background, you’ve found the right place
Welcoming for beginners and those who have been meditating in other styles, or at other Shambhala centers. Intentional about aiming to incorporate more direct social justice conversation and action, as well as sitting with one’s own mind. GORGEOUS setting surrounded by trees and a wild garden at this converted home—truly unlike a normal urban center. Great place to breathe and connect ♥️ 🌞
