I so enthusiastically recommend Soraya (and her team)’s catering, for any event but especially if you are looking for cuisine that isn’t your typical banquet fare. When my wife and I first started planning our wedding, we agreed that delicious and personal were our top priorities for food. We’d had so many wedding meals that were *nice* - lovely service and presentation - but kind of boring and uninspired. We love to feed our friends good food that they can’t easily make or get elsewhere and wanted to reflect that in our wedding. We agree that the North African food I’d grown up eating is the best cuisine on earth and we wanted to serve that, but worried that a wedding caterer couldn’t do it justice and we might have to navigate the hassle or no-frills approach of working with a restaurant that doesn’t really do weddings. Thankfully, we’d found an incredible wedding planner (Rachel of One Bell Designs) who assured us no compromise was necessary, because she knew just the caterer. When she shared the vast menu for SYB Events I was still a little bit skeptical, since while I saw some intriguing dishes there was still a lot of the usual wedding fare—but then I googled Soraya’s name and found the Soraya Events site with its more focused menus, and knew we had to meet with her. And we didn’t talk to any other caterers after that, because Soraya heard the vision and met each of our ideas with her own. We asked about a number of my favorites we hadn’t seen on her menus and she affirmed she could provide them with absolute confidence, and she was more than happy to tailor the service and timing to fit our very particular vision. One of my favorite things about working with Soraya was the at-home tasting she arranged and dropped off at our house (with a complimentary bottle of wine!), which fed us for most of a week and affirmed with dish after delicious dish that we’d made the perfect choice. When it came to the wedding day, she and her team seamlessly worked with Rachel’s to set up a kitchen in our unequipped venue. Soraya’s timing was incredible; she turned up at the exact moments we needed sustenance bearing coffee, hors d’oeuvres, and full plates when we arrived at the sweetheart table that were still hot. From the iced coffee welcome with cardamom and rose water syrups to the mezze spread reception to the couscous and tagines and kofta at the buffet, every bite was delicious and distinctly North African. We lost count of the number of guests who told us it was the best wedding food they’d ever had! My slightly jaded heart really didn’t expect our wedding to feel as special as it did, and Soraya was a huge part of that—we are so grateful!

About 5-6 months before our wedding, our original caterer re-quoted our pricing that I had signed over a year ago and it had increased by almost 15k! I was so distraught and stressed, as you can imagine. Luckily I found Soraya through a Facebook wedding group after I had asked for a second opinion. SHE SAVED MY WEDDING DAY. My husband and I are Cambodian and Chinese and trying to find any upscale asian caterer in the NorthShore was darn near impossible. I had my heart set on an upscale multi-course asian banquet menu. We ended up with 10 courses! Soraya made it happen and all the food was made on site at our venue in Peabody (the Olio). Our guests could not stop raving about how delicious everything was! To think I almost went with drop catering as I thought that was my only option. Thank goodness I found Soraya! As anyone who has ever thrown a big event knows, the food will make or break an event. And Soraya's food MADE our wedding a huge success. Soraya made sure fried foods were crispy, hot foods were HOT, and each table service was flawlessly delivered. Even our foodie families were happy with the food and were so surprised at how authentic everything tasted. We had menu items that were Chinese and Cambodian. I would hire Soraya and her team again, and again, and again. She kept me at ease and made sure everything was flawlessly executed. THANK YOU again for everything Soraya. You have mine and my families deepest appreciation.

We booked Soraya and her team to plan and cater our backyard wedding this past fall. This was easily the best decision we made for our special day! We had our concerns about the limitations of a home wedding, which Soraya easily put to rest. Soraya was incredibly accommodating, a true expert, and such a delight to work with. Her team handled everything perfectly — the delicious menu that blended our Greek and Puerto Rican cuisines, beautiful layout and decor, all the way to the remarkably efficient cleanup job after. We have such fond memories interacting with different members of Soraya’s team throughout the day. Our wedding went effortlessly and stress-free thanks to their incredible work.

I spoke with Soraya several times as I was trying to find a caterer for my event. I did wind up going with another company but I will say that Soraya was phenomenal to deal with as I figured out my event. She was extremely responsive, wrote a great proposal, and offered me some leads on entertainment. She listened to what I wanted and always knew who I was every time I called. I would definitely recommend reaching out to her to discuss your event. I hope that it'll work out that I'll get to use her services in the future.

Le mariage de notre fille a eu lieu il y a un peu plus d'un mois. C'était incroyable ! Et cela en dit long pour plusieurs raisons. Le mariage lui-même avait lieu sur une petite île au milieu d'un lac du New Hampshire, tandis que la réception se tenait à l'extérieur d'une maison privée dans les bois près du lac. 92 invités ont été transportés en navette jusqu'à l'île et ramenés à la maison. Cela a impliqué des bus scolaires loués et environ huit ou neuf bateaux. Pendant que nous étions sur l'île, Soraya et son assistante faisaient des choses incroyables dans la cuisine très modeste. Ils avaient parcouru tout le trajet depuis la région de Worchester, dans le Massachusetts, avec tout ce dont ils avaient besoin pour nous servir l'un des meilleurs repas de mariage que j'ai jamais goûté. Je ne comprends toujours pas comment ils l'ont fait. Ils ont nourri 92 adultes affamés, sous une tente en bas de la colline par rapport à la maison, avec de délicieux plats chauds, sans jamais manquer, et il n'y en avait que deux. Ils ont accompli un miracle. Au moment de leur départ, ils avaient tout nettoyé, laissé le surplus de nourriture dans le réfrigérateur, emballé tous les déchets et ne laissèrent ensuite aucune trace de leur présence au mariage, hormis les 92 invités heureux et les restes. Désolé que ce soit le dernier mariage de notre fille. Nous engagerions SYB à nouveau sans hésiter !
