We had our wedding reception at 28 event space the KC room and it was the perfect fit for our november wedding! Samantha (Venue manager) was super helpful every step of the way answering all of our questions and helping us navigate how to bring our dream to life. Super grateful to her and how great the space was for us. We also loved having the bride and groom suite! It made transportation, set up and etc so much easier. We can't recommend this place enough!
This review may be a bit long, but I hope it’s helpful for future couples. I’ll start with the positives. KC Room- The space itself is great and was large enough for our 290-guest wedding. It has a full kitchen for caterers, and both the bridal and groom suites were amazing. The groom suite was essentially an apartment, which really stood out when we were touring venues. The bridal suite was huge with 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths a full kitchen, living room and a dressing room that made getting ready convenient, and we had plenty of space to line up without feeling crowded. The location was easy to find, which was important since many of our guests were from out of town, and the on-site parking lot was a huge plus in such a busy area. The staff were wonderful. Our main contact, Sam, was newer but incredibly kind, attentive, and did everything she could to help us. There was also another staff member (I believe her name was Karen) who was very sweet and helpful. Now for the negative — the owner. He was extremely rude, and disrespectful! For context, 28 Event Space was previously managed by KC Hopps, and during that transition our contact person changed multiple times. While confusing at first, things were eventually settled and Sam became our point of contact. At our 30-day meeting, we confirmed a final guest count of 290 and agreed on a floor plan with 29 tables seating 10 guests each. The day before our wedding, while decorating, we discovered several tables only seated 8 people. Sam then learned from the owner that the venue only had 25 ten-person tables and suggested we rent additional tables. I explained that this was an issue since we had a finalized seating chart and were promised 29 tables. Sam called the owner and after a few minutes he wanted to speak with me. He was extremely rude and dismissive. He proceeds to tell me "when you booked with us, you really signed with KC Hopps so we don't have to do anything" and "I'm not even making any money off this wedding" and everything we paid went to KC Hopps and the only thing that we paid that went to 28 were the bartenders, soda, and taxes. "You all didn't even buy any alcohol and I had to pay $500 for just soda when I still have a staff to pay". "Most of what you paid went to KC Hopps so you're basically getting a free wedding." He repeatedly interrupted me, so much so that I had to say "Doug, I let you speak, now it's my turn." When I tried to explain that none of that was our responsibility, he continued interrupting and said "well...I didn't have to take on this contract so you really should be grateful that I'm even doing anything at all!" I was so upset that I handed the phone back to Sam and walked away in tears. I could hear him still talking, but I don't know what he was saying (I'm glad I didn't hear it b/c apparently it wasn't good) To make matters worse, the venue had scheduled a tour during our decorating time without informing us (Sam later canceled it due to the situation). During all of this my husband was at the storage grabbing more decorations, he comes back and I tell him what happened. He talks to Sam who was very apologetic and was trying to find a solution. About 5min after my husband speaks with Sam, the owner showed up in person and spoke with my husband. We did end up getting the correct number of tables, but the owner never once acknowledge or apologize for how he spoke to me or anything. He told my husband "well.. I figured I better do this b/c I don't want a bad review or end up on Fox4 or something." Outside of the owner, everything else was great — like I mentioned, the venue itself is beautiful, and Sam and the rest of the staff were kind and helpful. That interaction caused a lot unnecessary stress the day before our wedding. It's a lot to read, but, I wanted to make sure I was detailed in my review. Weddings are a big moment in life and the venue and staff involved can have a big impact. I do hope future couples never have to deal with the owner, and if they do, they have a better experience because he was terrible.
We had our company Christmas party here last week. It is a great space not only for weddings but company events as well. We were in the Kansas City room which just has a cool vibe!! We had a casino company come in and 28 Space was easy for them to work with. We love this space, we've had multiple company events here, always gracious and easy to work with... it's a gem!
My sister, my sister in law , and now myself all got married at 28 Event Space! Our family absolutely loves this venue and the whole team! 28 Event Space was so easy to work with myself and with my vendors. Their alcohol packaging, suite, venue hours and cost is great!
Celebration- birthday event. The venue is absolutely beautiful! The seating area, bar dance floor and elevated stage is perfect for birthday, graduation, retirement, or wedding event. The secure back rooms include 2 full bedrooms divided by a small lounging bar type area. The king size bed, jacuzzi, shower, dressing area with makeup lights and huge mirrors was tasteful and elegant! This is a place to go when you wish to pamper yourself before the event and step out to the social setting surrounded in a spacious yet intimate atmosphere. Book it, book it, Book it....you won't regret it!
