Ok to start off this place is awesome! Ordered in and tried the brisket chopped, Mac and cheese, beans, potato salad, and coleslaw. Brisket needed absolutely no sauce it was sooo good by itself. Mac and cheese has a twist to it and it’s gooood. Potato salad is perfect. Beans omg I could eat a container of those by themselves they have the right amount of kick to them. The sweet potato rolls are like a biscuit a sweet but not too sweet flavorful filling biscuit. Amazing!!! The customer service was the cherry on top. Everyone’s so welcoming and loving and checked on us making sure we were good in between their busy agendas. Will be back and anybody I come across im sending here to come eat.

First, let’s all agree that BBQ I’d a hotly debated topic. I ‘I’ve in TX for many years and came to love the Central TX bbq over all others. With that said… Taste of TX, is a fair representation of a TX-style bbq. And that’s what they advertise. It’s not the best TX bbq if had, but it’s the best I’ve had in VA. The sides were very good; super yummy green beans, a bit over cooked but well seasoned which is uncommon for green beans. The Mac ‘n cheese was worth the selection. Again not the top-end, but the pasta was cooked right and the cheese sauce was creamy, cheesy and flavorful. My favorite side was the potato salad, chunks of new potatoes in a mayo-based dressing, well seasoned with a light herb. Very, very good. The meats….again TX-style brisket, but very lacking on the traditional S&P rub. Good texture. Nicely rendered fat. Pretty smoke ring. No bark. The jalapeño-cheddar sausage was good, however, I’m sure those are vendor bought, not in-house, so hard to mess that up. Still tasty. Overall, I’m happy to have found a place that gives an option for BBQ that doesn’t require me to fire up my smoker and spend $80 and a whole day to smoke my own brisket. Good service and proper TX country music to give the right atmosphere. A little high on the price scale, but I get it, bbq can get spendy. Well done keep doing what you’re doing, just maybe add some more S&P to the rub.

Excellent food and even better service. I live in Texas, but am visiting Norfolk for work and had to try this place. The brisket and chicken were delicious. The sides and sauces were top notch. The owner kept checking on me and offering up several BBQ sauces to try, which I highly recommend the “Dr Pepper BBQ Sauce”.

Great BBQ! I for one, love smoked turkey, and the Taste of Texas is my favorite! The meat is tender & juicy (unlike most places). All the sides were just as amazing! I really liked the collard greens and the savory baked beans. My husband had the piled-high bbq pork, and enjoyed every bite. Plenty of food, we took the remainder of our combo-meals home. Bring your appetite! Reasonably priced too. A great little place, tucked in the shopping plaza. We definitely will return!

The staff was very kind, and all the food we tried was delicious. The chicken was smoked first and then deep-fried, making the outside perfectly crispy—it was unlike any chicken I’ve ever had before, and it was absolutely amazing! The ribs were also the best I’ve ever had!
