Educational experience. Very interesting place to visit. The tour went as scheduled. Drop off and pick up about every 30 minutes. Boat had snacks and restrooms. You can take your time on the island. Would recommend!

The cruise and exploration of Alcatraz was awesome. The only thing I will note is there is a lot of flies. I would recommend wearing pants and long sleeve shirt when visiting. The audio tour of the cell house is very informative and entertaining. I wish they had more of the island and building open for viewing.

Get a face/head net for the flies!(See ferry attendant in pic) No joke, seasonal flies all over the island..had bug spray and that didnt help much...they gave out hand fans while waiting to board ferry back to the mainland, was like a horror movie but all took it in stride...otherwise...ferry, ride and Alcatraz were awesome!!!! You go at your own pace....no following in groups...we explored the island a bit first, then went inside for the audio tour..headsets in multiple languages..all super friendly and helpful! Back outside for more exploring we were there about 2 hours but u can stay as long as u want and get on ANY ferry back to mainland!

Overall pleasant experience with City Cruises. I had unfortunately missed my original boarding time so I had to return the next day for a free standby ticket. The company recommends arriving at least 20 minutes prior to boarding. The ferry takes roughly 10-15 minutes to get to the island and there’s several indoor and outdoor seating options as well as a food bar on the first floor. I visited here in September and there was a massive amount of flies landing on people both on the dock and ferry so be warned.
