Ams it service is excellent, accomplished all my repair requests for my 2 phones and able seek out a special camera cable which was hard to locate. They have a great range of unique items in the store. Damien has great customer service and able to provide easy to understand answer.
I wish I had something nicer to say about this place because they seem like technically skilled people but I just did not get a good business experience from them. Asked them for a data recovery, he set the expectation that it would take a day. A day passed, no phone call, I dropped in person and was told it would be another day. Another day, still no phone call, dropped by in person, they need another day. Same thing the next day. Four days had passed and they finally said that all they could do was extract the WAV files only from the drive which was not the data I needed recovering at all. Lost two weeks of work, and I lost the four days that I could have using to redo it; now the project is due tomorrow and I'm going to have to do an all-night coffee smash. $200 charge, for essentially no improvement to my position. I paid it but I don't feel like my life has improved by $200 worth of service. People need to plan and organize their lives, which is why it's important to set expectations and forecast ahead, and contact clients when unexpected problems arise. That's as much a part of business as technical knowledge. EDIT: It actually gets worse: after this experience, I went home and taught myself how to perform a data recovery and successfully managed to extract all files that were on there. Not all of one type of file, ALL files. Meaning that on top of everything else, they weren't and aren't even correct in their claim that this was all they could do. I'm a layman and I figured it out myself in a few hours, it is disappointing that a professional business could not figure it out in four days.
I started my first business back 20 years ago and came across Damien at the local computer shop when needing to purchase a new pc. Since my first experience meeting him I've purchased all of my computer's, software, office needs and was/is my go to man for IT advice. Although I now live in the country and semi retired I still make a trip down to see him when I need help. Damien is extremely knowledgeable, respectful and trustworthy.
Reported to Consumer and Business Services and about to be reported to ACCC. Additionally based on reading his responses to complaints: he takes no responsibility or accountability, personally attacks and blames customers ( read the response to a customer and their mother) or the age of an item, charges without informed consent or adds additional charges without consultation. There are much faster, effective and careful tech repair businesses within walking distance. REPLY to AMS IT response: too many factual inaccuracies to address in a reply, but I will address some to protect consumers from similar experiences, and his statements contradict what he said to the police when I attended with them and this will all be addressed in court. There is no evidence that consent was given for repairs the second time or that I have ever been happy with any of them either via reviews, text, email or his audio and video recodings (which he informed of via sms after the police and I left with my property, which he also sent a picture of the three of us in his shop in hos continuing barrage of text messages). I had previously repeatedly told him no to his persistent verbal and text discussions about doing the second repairs because within a week of the first repair where there was no other damage, I had screws falling out and rattling around as well as broken plastc rattling in it before the hinge cover came off. He requested a google review and quite obviously unimpressed, it would not have been positive and I was not preared to address it with the person who caused it when studying full time and my work. For the upgrade, he had not informed me that it could take longer because I would have gone elsewhere because the upgrades were needed for my 8th course. The repair that he did without consent with me repeatedly telling him no, he only told me when it was due to be picked up that he had done it anyway, charging me $50 plus surcharge) - not a day or so as he quoted, but about two weeks after I brought it in. I needed my laptop so I paid and left it at that. He told me that it needed careful opening, which I did, but because he only glued one side of the screen frame, this caused a vulnerability on the left. The screen cracked when I opened my laptop because the left side of the frame popped out, pulling the screen with it (despite opening it slowly and as directed) prior to an online meeting. Had the repair worked, we would not be in this situation. As a service, a repair would be expected to last longer than 2.5 months and would be covered by Consumer law. The repair was his responsibility. I did not initially request a free screen, I pointed out that this damage occurred due to his repair 2.5 months earlier. I spoke to Consumer and Business Services and was recommended to speak to him about a refund for the previous $55 charge, which could be deducted from the $200 (plus $80 for express post, which he was prepared to waive). I didn't require my laptop for a following 8 days, so there was no need for express postage anyway. Had I not received a barrage of unnecessary, abusive, denigrating and threatening texts, I'd have allowed him to do the repair and then addressed the situation through CBS, ACC and court if necessary. He has refused to return the left mouse button, the new computer screen initially would not light up after taking it elsewhere for repairs following him pulling it apart and thanks to police standby required for retrieval, this is all recorded. The rest of his inaccurate statements will be addressed through appropriate channels - this reply was purely to protect other consumers with some facts that are obfuscated by his reply to my initial review. This was resolvable and should have been.
10/10 - 5 stars I love how dedicated and patient the staff here, the services is soo much cheaper than other store around me, only took less than 2 hour to fix my broken screen laptop, they spotted other problem in my laptop too which I find incredibly helpful. The staff also help us located the shop too for pickup. I would definitely revisit the store if I need help fixing something.
