It was a pleasant experience, you wait in line to order, you type it your phone number and name beforeyou order, then they will text your for pick up. It took 30 minutes for my order to be ready. I ordered the classic and spicy. It was delicious, put doesn't deserve all the hype about it beingthe best. The quality was great, you feel it and see it in their wrapping, survise was friendlyand welcoming. Would I come back? Yes, I will come back.
Since I'm in Philly, I had to try a few cheesesteak spots. This was on my list. Got here and the line was pretty long. It moves pretty fast. They have a great system for the space. You walk up and place the order. They text you when everything is ready and then you pay. Allows everyone to order quickly and get out the way. I ordered their regular cheesesteak. I wanted to order a slice too but it seems they only sell by the pie. I forgot to ask... Anyway, I think within about 10mins I got the text my cheesesteak is ready. I got to the hotel room and opened it. I just sat there with a smile for a moment admiring it. The cheese is mixed in with all the meat and onions. Just the way i like it. Ensures that every bite is as good as the last. One negative was... I just wasn't 100% feeling the bread they use. This was honestly Delicious. Easily, one of the best cheesesteaks I've had. Their staff was great too... Quick to help...
Angelo’s in South Philly lives up to the legend. I was already in the area and finally committed. Every time I drive by, the line stretches down the block, the kind of line that signals loyalty, not novelty. Curiosity won. Hunger followed. I ordered three things. A traditional cheesesteak, the Diavlo pizza steak, and The Stinky. The traditional cheesesteak was everything the hype promised. Tender steak, excellent bread, and a clean, confident balance of flavor that reminds you why the classic never needs reinvention. This one set the bar. The Diavlo pizza steak brought richness without overpowering the steak itself. Bold and indulgent, but still focused. It held its own next to the classic, which is no small feat. The Stinky was a thick crust square pan pizza, white and upside down, topped with caramelized onions, ricotta, and Mike’s Hot Honey. Savory, slightly sweet, and deeply satisfying. The crust carried everything beautifully. I stayed loyal to the traditional cheesesteak. My wife gravitated toward the pizza steak. Everyone walked away happy. I did leave a little bummed that I did not grab a traditional cheese pizza, but that just means I will be back. Some places earn the return trip. Angelo’s is one of them.
I had done a bit of research looking for the best cheesesteak in Philly. I have never been to the city and I have never had an authentic cheesesteak. I finally settled on this spot and my buddy suggested this same place before I even mentioned it. I walked directly there from the 30th street train station ( same from NYC) and was able to order pretty much right away. It was busy as all get out but things moved quickly. Thankfully it wasn’t when there a line out the door around the corner. I got the classic cheesesteak with cooper cheese and onions. The wait was only a little more than 10 minutes. The bagged deliciousness was dense. I opened it outside and started to explore heaven. It was messy but not awfully messy in a bad way. I didn’t even have one single napkin but be wary of that. The cheese was plenty and tasty without being overpowering. The chopped beef was tender and juicy and easy to chew/swallow. The roll had semolina seeds and added a nice texture and flavor as well. I ate the WHOLE thing in one shot. It’s filling with just 1/2 and saving the rest for a snack but I just couldn’t do that. I had one soda with it and the total was $21. I gave $25 and left it at that. It is cash only but most of these establishments are so that was no surprise. Is it a little pricey, sure but these specialty spots in cities usually are. No big deal. 10/10 and I would visit again in the future.
Hands down my #1 favorite Philly Cheesesteak throughout the entire city of Philadelphia. The Cheesesteaks at Angelo's are on another level. The rolls are amazing from Sarcone's Bakery a few doors down, which is generations of perfection. It takes years to get the flavor that they have cooked onto those flat grills. The way everything perfectly blends together, the meat, the cheese, & the fried onions, then they top it all off with that perfect Sarcone's seeded roll. Also their Nonna's Pie "Grandma's Pizza", is absolutely mouth watering. That pizza has the best crust you will ever taste in your entire life. So simple, so fresh, so flavorful, then served in that monumental Angelo's pizza box piping hot & ready for you to indulge in flavor heaven. Thank you as always to all the staff at Angelo's & Sarcone's for creating such delicious perfection honoring our great city of Philadelphia.
