We took our dog, Shadow, to The Retreat at Arlington Heights Animal Hospital for play care, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. They ensured he had all the required vaccinations—and even some that aren’t required at most other facilities—which made us feel confident about his safety. From the moment he arrived, the staff greeted and treated him like one of their own. He was smoothly introduced into the pack and made friends right away. Drop-off and pick-up were easy and efficient, and we loved receiving pictures of Shadow throughout the day. He came home one very happy dog! I highly recommend this place for your dog.
We love Arlington Heights Animal Hospital! The staff is friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Dr Nicole takes her time to answer all of our questions about how to continue to care for our 11 year old German Shepherd . We are very pleased with the service and care that we receive here and highly recommend them to anyone who is seeking a wonderful vet and overall experience.
I brought my 11-year-old dog in for her first visit here after we moved to the area. From the front office staff, to the vet tech, to the veterinarian, everyone was friendly and welcoming, especially to my sweet Pippi girl. They explained everything they did and offered options for treatment. They were very open and honest with procedures and the prices of treatment, and gave me options so I could decide what was best for us. We will definitely be using them for all of our future pet needs!
Update to my review: Both Brandi the office manager, & Dr. Dunehoo have followed up with me to check on my dog, & to get some additional details about this situation. After chatting with both of them, it does appear that our situation was a bit of an anomaly. It does not sound like the urgency of the situation was clearly communicated to Dr. Dunehoo when I called Friday morning going into Labor Day weekend. They also both informed me that same-day appointments are available when needed, although that was not offered to me at the time, I was told they were very busy going into the holiday weekend & the soonest appointment offered was 5 days later. Both of them seemed genuinely apologetic & concerned about the situation. We have still chosen to continue with our new veterinarian, but I sincerely appreciate them trying to remedy the situation. Original Review: I was not pleased with AHAH. My two golden retrievers have been patients since we moved to Fort Worth in January. I never felt the office responded with a real sense of urgency, but we had established care so it was what it was. Exam fees & cost of everything else is higher here than any vet we’ve been to, including our new vet in the area. We actually paid more here than we paid at the emergency vet, both times we had to visit. The final strike for us was in the last few weeks. One of my dogs had developed a limp in his left leg. I called AHAH, & they got him in about 3 days later. We x-rayed his leg to look for signs of elbow dysplasia. Dr. Dunehoo couldn’t find the source of the limping at this time, which was completely understandable. His pinky toe showed very minor signs of swelling in the x-ray, but it didn’t look alarming. She referred us to a surgeon for possibly a CT, in case it was muscular. We made an appointment with the surgeon, but their first appointment was 2 weeks out. In the meantime, I identified the source of the problem. I could tell it was his pinky toe, which made sense with the minor swelling on the x-ray. I called the office & talked to Carly, & requested a call from Dr. Dunehoo. Carly said Dr. Dunehoo would call back at some point that week “if she gets time.” 🙄 Fortunately Dr. Dunehoo called back that evening. I told her I wondered if his toe was broken, but that I was pretty certain that toe was the source of the problem. Her response was “good thought” but that she didn’t think so, & still thought he should just see the surgeon. Fast forward two days, I called back. Something rock-hard was protruding from the paw pad of that toe. I told them I wanted them to look at my dog’s paw. He was clearly in pain by this point. Their response was to up his pain med dose, & get him in FIVE days later. Frustrated, I ended up at the ER vet that weekend. It was his toe. A foreign body had gotten into his toe, & was developing scar tissue around it. The ER vet (who was fantastic), sedated him, opened up the wound, & pulled out globs of hard pus from his paw. One day later, the limping has gone away. We ended up finding a new vet, because the ER vet requested we get chest x-rays, to make sure he didn’t develop aspiration pneumonia. I called Southlake Crossing Animal Clinic, and they got my dog in two hours later. Ironically, even in an affluent area like Southlake, the exam fee was nearly half what it was at AHAH. It was $40 in Southlake, $72 at AHAH. We also paid more at AHAH than we did at the ER vet. Our total for this issue at the ER vet was $580 after they spent 4 hours working on him. Our total for this issue at AHAH was $704. Respectfully, I think AHAH has taken on too many clients. If they are too busy to see current patients who have urgent things come up, same week… then they are too busy in general. I think the team at the front desk needs a training on what counts as an urgent but not emergent situation, and needs to be better about scheduling clients in urgent situations in a more timely manner. A note of praise I will give, is their vet technicians have always been kind and helpful.
Highly recommend this vet! All the vets at this practice are amazing and will take great care of your fur-baby! I found this place when I adopted my first cat after moving here. My first cat was a special case and he got very sick shortly after I got him. The vets here provided the best care for him, and although he passed, I know they did all they could to figure out what was wrong and how to help him. After my boy's passing, the Arlington Heights Animal Hospital vets and staff sent a letter and a flower and that meant a lot to me. When I got my next fur-baby, I knew immediately who to take them to. I now have two happy and healthy fur-babies that I take to the vets here. Between annual check-ups and just random concerns with my two fur-babies, I have had the pleasure of interacting with all the vets at this practice; all of them are amazing and take the time to listen to concerns and talk through and explain complex veterinary issues. The vet techs are super professional and efficient. The office staff are super friendly. Most importantly though everyone there loves animals! If you're in need of veterinary care for your fur-baby, Arlington Heights Animal Hospital is the best!
