My son loves the center and so do I. People are very friendly and patient. Their approach to teaching a kid is very unique. My son who can’t focus for 15 mins but was able to do a music camp for 8 hours there. Even I started taking class there.
I’ve given this many months of thought before deciding to share an honest reflection of our experience at Bach to Rock, and I do so with my daughter’s full consent and encouragement. When we first joined, it felt like we had found something truly special. My daughter was enjoying her lessons and was invited to join a band early on, which made her feel included and excited about music. The emphasis seemed to be on fun, friendship, and building a creative community, exactly what we were looking for. Unfortunately, that experience didn’t last. Over time, clear red flags began to emerge, and in hindsight, I regret not acting on them sooner. The first major concern came when the band’s instructor was fired. A situation that, surprisingly, was shared in detail directly with the kids by other staff members. That level of unprofessionalism felt inappropriate, especially in a space designed for young people. What followed was a period of rapid turnover among my daughter’s private guitar instructors - four different teachers in just three months. As anyone who’s studied music knows, consistency is essential to growth, and this kind of instability made it difficult for her to progress or build rapport with any one teacher. Another concern I initially overlooked was how one instructor reportedly used lesson time to vent about being in a bad mood. At first, I gave it the benefit of the doubt, assuming it was a one-off moment of burnout. But my daughter brought it up more than a few different times. That same instructor later became the band leader for one of her groups, and things escalated from there. During that time, my daughter experienced what I would describe as verbal and emotional mistreatment from this teacher, something she bravely stood up for herself about. Unfortunately, doing so seemed to alienate her from her peers. I was also told that yelling from this teacher was a regular part of band practice, which only added to the tension. When conflict arose between the kids as a result of this volatile environment, I was told there would be a brief, mediated conversation to help them work things through. What actually happened was a 90-minute ambush, where my daughter was blindsided and made to feel attacked by the other band members, without appropriate support or boundaries from the adults in the room. Even the manager later admitted that the other students had been out of line and agreed that if things didn’t improve, they should be the ones to leave the band. Despite all of this, my daughter kept showing up, hoping things would get better. Instead, she felt increasingly isolated and unsure of how to act around her peers who continued to shut her out. After weeks of ongoing discomfort, I received a call from the manager informing me that my daughter should leave the band due to her "presented trauma." It was a gut punch, especially after everything she had already endured. For a place that works with kids, especially teenagers, I was shocked by the lack of structure and protocol around conflict resolution, and by how little effort was made to prioritize a fun, positive environment over the appearance of career potential. The decision felt like it prioritized the comfort (or financial investment) of the other families over what was right or fair. Bach to Rock stated that they weren’t trained to handle emotional conflicts between students, but it doesn’t take specialized training to encourage communication, acceptance, and inclusivity. These kids, who were essentially strangers, were placed in a band together by B2R. That comes with responsibility, and I believe B2R didn’t take enough of it. Looking back, I wish I had trusted my gut and left the school sooner. What started as a promising and joyful experience ultimately turned into something disheartening, and at times, traumatic. My hope is that Bach to Rock reflects on how they support young musicians, not just in learning songs, but in teaching them how to respect, support, and accept one another. That’s the kind of music community I want for my daughter.
Great facility for young people to learn! They are really dedicated to creating a full experience for these kids and giving them the chance to shine! Our 8 year old has loved being a part of glee club and Rock band and is going to do it again next week!
We found Bach 2 Rock (Nashville West) back in 2023. My daughter was turning 5 years old and we were looking for a fun birthday party experience involving music. My daughter is AuDHD (Autistic & ADHD) & is in love with all things music; It makes her feel safe & brings out this light in her. We were blown away with not only the professionalism, kindness, & talent of the instructors but also the “bang for the buck” for their party package. So many things we looked into were super expensive & not anywhere near the experience. The Birthday Party was a musically immersive experience & My daughter absolutely loved everything. She got to play instruments & perform on stage a song she had chosen (We brought ours from an artist friend but they have a whole catalog to choose from) & She even got to record herself singing the song in their recording studio! At the end of her party was the performance for family, friends, & party-goers. The performance is what made my daughter want to do more with Bach 2 Rock. (We have since done camps & private lessons) Ultimately; We were most impressed with the connection my daughter made with the instructor/teacher who led her birthday party who she now takes private lessons from & is one of her favorite people in the world. Because my daughter is AuDHD she can be very rigid & tends to have sensory meltdowns or shutdowns due to overwhelm. Her teacher is great with all children (All of the instructors & staff are) but she really gets my daughter. She makes my daughter feel safe and builds her up. She knows how to get her to focus & encourages her talent. My family has been through a lot & the Bach 2 Rock staff & teachers over the past two years have witnessed quite a bit of it. They have also watched my daughter grow & her personality & musical prowess too! They are extremely supportive & compassionate. They have an amazing curriculum & offer private lessons, camps, events, bands, etc. for a variety of musical interests & fields; for all ages & abilities. (There are even Mom & Dad Rock Bands! 🤘🏻) They have recitals, as well as perform out in public at events and festivals. Students played at last year’s Bonnaroo & do Battle of the Bands. As far as my daughter; Even with their amazing baseline curriculum offered; They saw the drive & talents in my little one & curated a specialized curriculum for her lessons that fit her needs & musical goals. She is truly excited to go to her lessons & often needs to be consoled when we can’t attend. Bach 2 Rock -Nashville West is truly inclusive. They are not just compassionate but highly professional. All of the instructors are crazy talented & are actively out doing what they teach as well. The schooling, awards, shows, tours, performances behind them all is top notch. I could go on and on as I can’t say enough about Bach 2 Rock. I highly recommend this music school. Thank you to everyone at Bach 2 Rock -Nashville West for everything you do for my girl. 💓
We have absolutely loved our experience at Bach to Rock. We take two classes with them: Kids & Keys for my 6 year old and Private Guitar lessons for me. They make music fun without the guilt and the pressure. They make me want to practice and they are very professional but make us feel like family. We've gotten to know them over the last few months and haven't met a single teacher that wasn't warm and welcoming. My son LOVES the teachers and talks about all the things he's learned. They've made kids' lessons fun with a variety of experiences and exercises for the children. We searched high and low to find a group kids class and this has been exactly what we wanted (we drive almost 40 minutes to get there happily each week). Also, I've taken lessons my entire life and Andrew has given me insight that I've never had before. He's shown me what the guitar can really do and he's got so much love for the music that you can't help but love it too. He's got a great gut for what you need to learn and in what order that makes it continue to feel interesting and new every week. I signed up because my son was really enjoying his class at the same time and I wanted to seize the opportunity to learn too. I would really recommend this. It's been a wonderful experience for both of us. I can't say enough good things about Back to Rock Nashville West (especially Michael the owner, Lexi, Ian and Andrew!). Update: This place has become home. I’ve joined a Mom band led by Ellie and my life will forever be changed for the better!! I feel so uplifted and have found a family here. It just keeps getting better!!
