This escape room had a lot of 4- and 5-star reviews and, after completing their hardest room, we were really confused as to why. My partner and I have completed over 10 escape rooms together, and even more separately, and this was by far the least engaging and most disappointing one. The mechanics of the room itself were very enjoyable to use and very cool, it was the puzzles themselves that left a lot to be desired. They were extremely simplistic and disconnected. We struggled to start the first puzzle because there was zero indication of how to begin. We didn’t want to go around touching things because of how heavily it was emphasized that the entire room was fragile and off-limits. Something as little as a final line in the introduction that references what needs to be done, or a subtle clue (such as scrawling out “I see you”?) above the thing you need to start with. Once we got past the first puzzle, we finished the room in less than 30 minutes and without a single hint. There was also just a very creepy vibe to the entire building, and there was no waiver to sign, which should have been our first red flag. The ambience of the room could certainly be of a much higher quality, such as an addition of music and sound effects other an occasional scream from the iPad, or something more evocative of a little girl’s diary than laminated pieces of printer paper. Again, the mechanisms of the room such as the door to the next room, the way the candles were rigged, or the solution to the first puzzle were super cool, but the actual puzzles, logic, and flow of the room (such as having 13 strict “missions”) cancelled them out. We noticed that most of the good ratings were from first-time escape room visitors and from families. With that in mind, our conclusion is that this place will be disappointing if you’ve done an escape room before, but it may be an okay introduction to the function of escape rooms due to the simplicity of the puzzles and straightforwardness of the missions and clues. But, for $40 a person, you can find significantly better escape room for beginners and families in the area.
