I originally came to Bartevian just to take photos, but ended up having one of the most memorable experiences of my trip. The shop has been around for generations, and I had the chance to meet one of the Hickory sisters—Pat—who had a background performing in the 1940s before helping run the store. It’s a reminder that behind small businesses are incredible stories. Highly recommend visiting.

Patricia is a gem and it’s very admirable that she has the ability to work at the store and tell her story. People don’t encounter classic celebrities like her everyday. She deserves so much respect and appreciation 🩷🙏🏼🪽

I see people calling this a scam... what this place is a time capsule- a real treasure chest and if youre lucky enough to visit then listen to Patricas most incredible story that she tells proudly. I see people complaining about spending $20 on a book. Shes not forcing you to buy it. Shes a clever lady. Not everyone that walks through her door will spend $500 on an antique ring.. shes running a non profit shop. She also has to eat and she takes a taxi to go to work everyday. This costs money. Shes 102 and still shows up to work everyday. It was an honour meeting her and i loved every second in this shop. PS to the people who begrudingly paid $20 for her book, i paid $40 and she signed it and i love it!

The lady who owns the store is 102, and her life was interesting. She was wonderful. Me and my wife loved her and the little shop, we didn’t buy much except a book and honey but it was a treat.

First time and last time visiting the store. I feel like I was scammed. Just like all the comments, the lady was very nice and after telling me about her life, she tries to sell me her book based on donations. I decided to get it, because she kept insisting. When checking out, I had a $20 item, and decided to donate $10 for the book, she said that was wonderful. However, she tried to add a $10 sales tax? I spoke up, and she throw a comment “sales tax? I assume you have that where you are from?”. Anyways, she settle for a total of $35. Completely scammed. Anyways, do not recommend.
