Went later in the night since they close at 10pm. Nice ambiance with dim lighting. Service was pretty good. Appetizers: I thought the complimentary bread felt nice and soft, but the gf felt it was old and cold compared to hot & buttery bread served at other restaurants. Next, the Bruschetta ca' pummarola tasted the best out of all the orders. Main: We went with the three course prix fixe meal: 1. Swordfish Carpaccio Antipasti tasted... interesting; like salty dried fish, maybe not our taste? 2. When the Squid Ink Fettuccine and Salmon Fettuccini came with "a lot of plate", the portion initially looked small, but there was actually a good amount of pasta there. But flavor for both was lacking and quite salty; we could not finish it due to the sodium. 3. Panna cotta - it was okay. Overall 3/5 for the food. I bookmarked this place awhile back and was glad to try it, but will likely not return.
Delicious! Be sure to make a reservation during peak dining hours because its popular and fills up. I ordered the Margherita pizza - cooked in a wood fired oven and topped with fresh Genovese basil leaves. Paired nicely with a glass of Barbera d'Alba. Also, in this review is the butternut squash fettuccini with roasted Brussel sprouts, Pecorino, shaved garlic and balsamic vinegar drizzle. Paired with a glass of Viognier, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay blend. The restaurant is located in a residential neighborhood, so if you're a tourist your bus/rideshare will pass by this place on the way to or from the de Young museum. Oh, and don't forget housemade desserts - Yum :) Great service and clean bathrooms too.
First off, the food was absolutely incredible. Every dish was bursting with flavor and beautifully prepared, easily the best Italian restaurant I’ve been to. The service was just as impressive, if not better. Our waiter delivered true five-star service, offering complimentary tastings, making thoughtful recommendations, and striking the perfect balance of attentiveness without being overbearing. The ambiance was a perfect blend of classy and fun, with the charm of an upscale Italian restaurant and the energy of a lively bar. They even have a free pool table, which adds a playful touch. Highly recommend. I’ll be making it a point to return to San Francisco just to dine here again.
Great service and great food! The menu was a little overwhelming at first to read but we both were able to find something we liked. The quality and quantity of food were perfect (and we were given some additional treats for free)! I wouldn’t say this gives typical Italian-American restaurant vibes (more authentic Italian) but in the afternoon it was quiet and exactly what we needed. Lots of gluten free options and pasta is very well made!
We were a group of 6 adults and 1 toddler. Bella Trattoria had a table set up for us with a high chair, and they were very accommodating. The place is warm and cozy, and had an eclectic group of customers, some couples on date night at the bar and the front tables, and 3-4 tables had young families. I like that they didn't snub the couples with young babies. The food we ordered was very good. We had a vegetarian minestrone that came out in pots for our whole table to share, along with some fresh bread. Our entrees were pastas: creamy cheese ravioli with veggies added (our cousin loved), pesto (my husband's favorite), arrabbiata spaghetti (the baby's first time trying it, and she took it over - loved it), and a fettuccini dish that was made with an egg sauce, which was very tasty. Sorry I don't remember the official names of the dishes, we didn't take a pic of that day's menu. Their pastas were cooked to a perfect al dente. We also ordered desserts (sorry, no pics, because we dug in so fast). The tiramisu was my favorite, a panacotta with berry compote was our cousin's fave (and also the toddler's), and baba Neapolitan (homemade rum cake), which the others loved.
