We went to Birchbark Books “on the way” home from Rochester, MN. It was SO worth it! The staff was incredibly nice and the book selection — WOW!! And yes, there was art and jewelry as well. The little Hobbit House for kids was so cute. There is a LOT packed into this small community bookstore so plan on spending a bit of time when you go. I was able to purchase some great children’s books for the agency I work for and also brought a pretty good stack home for personal reading. And did I say the staff was FANTASTIC and the book selection was phenomenal!?!?
Amazing store with a fantastic selection far beyond just books. I was helped in finding the perfect books and gift and even given a tour of the store’s vast offerings. From the moment I walked in, I felt truly welcomed. I would highly recommend this store and will definitely return. Loved the design of the store....
Beautiful store and super friendly workers and people. Amazing perfect vibe. Love u Louise Erdrich
I was overdue getting here but just in time for a holiday gift. This bookstore is cozy, cute, and a whole lot to take in. There is an awesome loft for children to play and/or read. If you're height-challenged like myself, you will not have to modify your stance up those stairs, but I assume most adults will. Staff helped my mom find a book that was comparable to other authors. I really enjoy the fact that this is niche, there is a huge focus on Native works which is crucial to the roots on Minnesota. There is something for all ages with eclectic surroundings. I will be back!
We made the pilgrimage to Birch Bark from Chicago and it did not disappoint. Both of our are fans of the owner's writing and wanted to experience the show. It was so incredibly full of joy, warmth, and resources. The indigenous language collection was the best we've ever seen. The staff picks and recommendations were prolific and very meaningful. The decor was so special and meaningful. I especially appreciated the hobbit hole for young readers and the zine collection on current protests and collective action. We were so grateful for the experience and will definitely visit again when we're back in the Twin Cities.
