I recently started guitar lessons at Bojangles Music School, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. Shawn is not only knowledgeable and professional, but he also creates a welcoming, supportive environment that makes learning as an adult truly enjoyable. He balances structure and expertise with a sense of fun, which keeps each lesson engaging and motivating. I never feel out of place as a beginner, and I leave every session excited to keep practicing. If you’re looking for a school that combines skill, professionalism, and encouragement, this is the perfect place.
If you have ever, even for a glimmer of a moment, considered taking music lessons, then come to Bojangles. I've been learning here for 2 years. My journey had a great beginning and has only gotten better. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned player, here are reasons you should come to Bojangles: 1. Welcoming atmosphere - Maybe you're timid, maybe you're confident. Maybe you've never picked up an instrument in your life, maybe you know what you're doing. Either way, you will be greeted with kindness and congeniality. Here, there is a feeling of community. You are encouraged to be yourself and guided to lean into your strengths. As with most things in life, you'll get out of your experience what you put into it. Whether you're up for a lot or a little, you will be supported to thrive here if you want to. 2. Well run, local business - There are various options for scheduling and payment and pricing is very reasonable for what you get. The building is easy to find, filled with cool things, and designed for learning music. There is a spacious, comfortable area if you're waiting for your turn or for your child to finish lessons. More important than any of those things are Shawn & Liz Parks, the owners. They are two incredible people who have built something precious. They clearly love and care for their students, instructors, and the school and they do the utmost to ensure your experience is excellent. You couldn't ask for more. 3. Top-notch instructors - Head to the website, check out the instructor bios, and prepare to have your socks blown off. Bojangles instructors are professional musicians who choose to pass on the love of their craft to others. Whatever it is that you want to learn and however it is that you need to learn it, you can do it here. My own experience at Bojangles has been incredible. Shawn is my guitar teacher, and I've packed far more into two years than I could have dreamed possible. I've unlocked parts of myself that I didn't know were hidden. In addition to guitar lessons, I've done a creative writing class with Liz and a songwriting workshop lead by Shawn, Matt Harlan, and Hudson Mueller. I could list MANY more reasons why I think Bojangles is awesome, but I tried to pick the three things that would best help you decide where you would like to spend your time and money. You have a lot of choices for places that you could go for music lessons, but this is a quintessential Houston experience. Don't sleep on this - I promise you, Bojangles is the place you want to be. I'll be here, having my adventure. Come join me.
Earlier today I participated in the Intro to Songwriting Workshop, at the Bojangles Heights location. From the start, on through to the finish of the experience, it was abundantly clear that the Bonjangles school is a wonderful community of teachers who are passionate about helping students (of any age, and of any level of experience) to explore the aspects of music that each student is interested in. They are truly welcoming. I feel like they did a great job in the workshop with engaging with everyone and providing opportunities to contribute. I will gladly take part in future workshops.
I decided to take up guitar as a little New Year’s resolution for myself in 2025. After researching various music schools in the Houston area, I felt drawn to Bojangles as a local business that seemed to really care about their students and their musical growth, while also charging a fair price for lessons. I’ve been taking guitar lessons with Shawn now for about a month and I could not be happier. I can feel myself get better with each passing week and I always feel taken care of at my lessons. They were very flexible with scheduling and cancellations if needed. Bojangles is a great school that truly cares about their students! Highly, highly recommend.
Bojangles Music School in the Heights is fantastic. I don’t even know where to begin. Shawn (who grew up in the Heights) and Liz (the owners) are just awesome, kind, friendly, and engaging. The music studio is super cool. Each room is designed beautifully, their waiting room is comfortable and fun! They have a pool table, an air hockey table, and a TV in case we show up a bit early. But, what stands out the most are the instructors. My son takes guitar lessons with Shawn, and he has learned so much. My daughter takes piano lessons (on a baby grand piano!) with Blake. I could gush over Blake forever. He is an amazing musician himself, sings and plays several instruments. He makes the lessons fun and engaging while also very informative. My daughter has become a budding musician because of him. He also sends a short video note after each lesson so that my daughter knows exactly what to practice. I grew up taking music lessons, and the methodology and technical skills Bojangles teaches is top-notch. If you are looking for a great music school with fabulous instructors all while supporting a local business, definitely reach out to Bojangles in the Heights!
