I'm writing this comments for my wife. She had a 1.5hr private lesson and road test package with coach Dimitry this morning. Dimitry was late, and finish earlier. During the lesson, he ask my wife to drive in gas station to refill, and he went to the gas station grocery store. My wife payed for 1.5hr but actually only had 75 minutes. Dimitry barely gave instructions for my wife's driving. No comments / review for her performance. The lesson is harsh and unfriendly, which make my wife very uncomfortable. She called the driving school to complain it. But the feedback is just "when the gas is about to gone we need to refill it", and "Dimitry think you are not ready for the test, do you want another lesson tomorrow?" I have a feeling that the driving school is avoiding to talk about their problem and just want to milk last ounce out of the customer.
Brookline driving school was a great experience for me. The company is very organized and honorable with their policies. I was able to cancel and reschedule very easily if needed and I was refunded the money for hours not used as they had promoted. I will say that I had a couple experiences where instructors yelled, granted it is a very serious matter, but that was very overwhelming. That doesn't discount the other great instructors like Jiri. I passed my test and I'm very grateful.
My first two lessons with this school were actually pretty great. They were with José, and he has the attitude of a real teacher — patient, clear, and steady on the brake when needed. He drove me to a residential area and we practiced safely. No issues there. However, my recent and probably final lesson with Brookline Driving School was with Yuriy, and the experience was completely different. When we still had another student in the car, he behaved calmly and professionally. But after we dropped that student off, his attitude changed. He became unprofessional, mocked me when I asked a question, and stressed me out to the point where I nearly crashed twice — once from a late brake behind a car, and once with oncoming traffic. He also randomly decided when to do parallel parking or three-point turns, without clear explanation. His mix of a low speaking voice and sudden berating made it hard to understand him and extremely stressful to follow instructions. Saying “move” isn’t helpful when I don’t know if he means left, right, or forward. Overall, Brookline Driving School is like any other — it depends entirely on the instructor. I’d definitely recommend José. But I strongly recommend staying far away from Yuriy.
I signed up for lessons as an adult trying to get their license without having any practice outside of the driving school. My initial 10 hours of private lessons were overrall good. I'd say some instructors were better than others, but I felt like it was good practice and that I learned something every lesson. I probably could have passed the road exam after the initial 10 hrs, but I didn't feel confident so I signed up for an additional 10 hrs plus the road exam. I really gained confidence in driving and parallel parking during my second set of 10 hrs of road lessons and I had the two best instructors - Ervin and Bryan! They were really good at being patient and took the time to explain rules of the road and why we'd want to do things a certain way. I also think it helps to have consistent instructors once you figure out who you work well with. The driving school will pair you up with instructors based on availability by default, but don't be afraid to request certain instructors if you know who you would work well with and if you don't necessarily have a tight deadline. I highly recommend Ervin and Bryan.
I had a really good experience with Brookline Driving School. I went in expecting to work with one instructor throughout all my lessons and honestly, I would have preferred that. But the rotation worked out well for me. I had lessons with Jiri, Vladimir, and Mark. They were all great, but Mark was truly exceptional with his calm demeanor. I’d definitely recommend this place!
