I'm currently on my fourth session at Buffalo Open Arts Atalier and the experience has been exceptional, primarily thanks to Michael Long. The studio is welcoming and well-equipped, but it's Michael's teaching that makes all the difference. He blends clear demonstrations with practical, step-by-step guidance. You always know what to do next and why. His knowledge is incredible, and his critiques are encouraging, specific, and tailored to my skill level. I've gone from a beginner to confidently creating my own oil paintings (two of my portraits from this summer below). Classes are well-paced and packed with takeaways. The community feel is real, and I've learned so much just by watching others work and hearing Michael's critiques. Since starting at BOAA, I've been inspired to do something art-related every day, whether it's painting, drawing, framing or perusing art books. If you're in the Buffalo area and want to seriously improve your art while enjoying the process, BOAA is an enthusiastic recommendation. “Why do we do art? Because it’s fun.” ML

I was searching and searching for an instructor that could teach me what you would find at a college and thankfully found this place. I’ve learned something every class and highly recommend taking a class! Mike is a great teacher and creates a cozy environment for art.

These classes reinvigorated my love of art after years of not creating. The instruction and guidance is super helpful and class setting is relaxed and fun.

This class is a great start for anyone who is just starting out. I had issues with color mixing. Now I have the tools to keep going.
