I had a booking at 11:30am today and as I was on the way there, I called in at 11:25am to let them know respectfully that we’d be late for 8 minutes. When we got there, we waited for check-in, and then I was told because we were 10 minutes late so the doctor couldn’t see us. Firstly, we were exactly 8 minutes late as I said, then I was shocked by this cold and rude service, and replied they could have let me know earlier when I called in, but now we drove all the way there and they were kicking us out? It’s clear that they do not care about us as their customers. It’s just more than disappointing.
I am here visiting from Newfoundland for Christmas and on our trip home my dog has his cyst burst open. He was also very anxious from our long trip so he had to be sedated to clean up the spot and remove the material inside. They got me in same day and did the treatment the same day. I saw Dr. Jen and she was amazing. She took her time and was very gentle and caring towards Zeus. And she also took the time to answer my questions. So often now I feel rushed through appointments, but I did not feel rushed at all with her. And she even recommended some calming meds for our trip back to Newfoundland. Absolutely recommend.
Was a regular here. Brought my dog in with an infected bite from another dog. They said sorry you will have to call and make an appointment. I said fine we will go to a veterinarian that is interested in animal care as much as money. By the way they overcharge for everything. They represent everything that is wrong with the corporate veterinarian monopoly.
As a pet owner in Ottawa, I understand that there’s no such thing as The Perfect Vet. Prices are extortionate and let’s be honest, service is… average – all around this city. But we make do, right? Our beloved furry friends are more than just friends – they are family members. When we joined Carling Animal Hospital, it almost seemed too good to be true. “If you’re happy, then we are happy” we were told. We were assured that our dog would be given his medication and that, unless we noticed any significant changes, that would be enough. And then, something seemed to change. Firstly, the prices skyrocketed – 25 to 50% over a period of 24 months. (I wonder if vets in Ottawa even realise WHY the rate of people bringing their pets in for care has dropped massively – but that’s another issue.) Ok, fair enough, prices have gone up on a whim. Once again, we make do. As owners of a dog who has a chronic illness and requires daily medication, we started to realise that, every time we went in, we were jumping through another hoop. Every single visit seemed to result in a further blood test, at a higher price, going against what we were told from the beginning – if there are no changes in our dog’s disposition or behaviour, then no tests were required. When we questioned the need for these tests, they blocked the medication and refused to prescribe it. Furthermore, they never answered the question WHY these tests were NOT necessary 5 prescriptions ago. What changed from 2023 to 2025? We definitely didn’t get the memo and were left baffled by these sudden changes and let down by false promises. As 2 shift workers, we couldn’t get to Carling Animal Hospital before the medication ran out, and they flatly refused to give any medication, even just a few days’ worth, to get us to a point where we could bring in our dog. They also never told us it was our last refill. Suddenly, we were at their mercy and unable to give our dog potentially life-saving medication. The biggest loser in all of this? Our dog. I’m stunned by this. Despite knowing that without these meds, our dog would suffer seizures, they refused. Additionally, I didn’t appreciate the cold calls on a Friday night trying to upsell me on a series of additional tests for our dog, completely unrelated to his illness. Ultimately, we left when it became clear that their priorities had shifted from genuine care to making money.
We are so happy we chose Carling Animal Hospital as our vet for our 10 week old GSD. They have been exemplary with service and care. After a little scare they even followed up the next day to make sure our boy was doing well. All staff is extremely friendly and caring. Highly recommend!
