I started the Beginner 1 classes on Zoom 7 months ago, and have been amazing at how much I have learned and how much I have enjoyed doing so. The class is a good mixture of structure and flexibility and the material is a good mix of grammar and conversation. Ximena is a great teacher who makes the class fun, even when it's challenging. I've already recommended the class to several friends.

The quality of the teachers really varies. I took two of the beginner sessions from two different teachers. The first one is engaging and understands the ability of the beginner students. The other one is not accommodating at all. I often get ridiculed for not understanding certain vocabularies. Three weeks in, it’s basically self study for me at this point. The teacher assigns homework but never checks them, and says one thing and does something else in class.

to whom it may concern, I have been studying Spanish at Centro Latino in Berkeley intermittantly for the past 15 years. I started with a rudimentary knowledge of the language and am now at a level where I speak it fluently; all I need is some grammar tweaking. I have learnt a tremendous amount about the language and the culture of the Spanish speaking world over the years. It has been a big plus in my profession both for the fun of it and in enhancing my income. The groups at the Centro are small, giving everyone a chance to express themselves and the teachers that I have worked with have all been very pleasant and highly skilled. learning a new language is like opening a window on another world and is a tremendous social asset.
