We didn’t expect something this good! At George Square, Ceylon Cartel’s pop-up delivered Sri Lankan street food perfection that made this festival unforgettable. We started with the Lamb Rolls (Tyro always loves lamb rolls, so we had to try them first). Golden, crispy cylinders of joy filled with tender, spiced lamb, wrapped in a shatteringly perfect coating. The accompanying sauce was the ideal companion—simple perfection. Then it was my turn: The Cheese Steak Kottu, topped with a perfectly crafted egg—a masterpiece served in a beautiful craft bowl. Succulent steak slices nestled among colorful Sri Lankan nostalgic crisps in brilliant pinks and yellows, creating an Instagram-worthy dish that tasted even better than it looked. Every bite was a flavor explosion. The outdoor festival atmosphere, the authentic presentation, the passionate cooking—everything aligned beautifully. This wasn’t just food; it was a love letter to Sri Lankan cuisine, served under the Edinburgh sky. Exceptional flavours, stunning presentation, festival vibes perfected. Tried the chicken kottu from Ceylon Cartel at the food festival and it was a total flavour bomb! The dish was perfectly spiced, with tender pieces of chicken mixed into flaky, chopped roti, all stir-fried with vegetables and a rich, curry-infused sauce. It had just the right balance of heat and savoury depth. The portion was generous, and the smoky wok aroma made it even more addictive. Easily one of the standout dishes at the festival — bold, comforting, and full of Sri Lankan soul.
We tried their Kottu recently, and it was as good as – if not better than – what we have in Sri Lanka. The portion was big enough for roughly two people. The guys running the place seemed really friendly with the locals, and it looks like they prepare authentic Sri Lankan food with less spicy options as well. I'd recommend anyone to try this place out if you're around Glasgow.
Stumbled on this wee van while walking through the barras and it was a good find. Only tried the Ceylon lamb roll but it was really good and the guys kindly gave us some soup while we were waiting which was also really good. Will be back to try more of the menu
I moved to the UK six months ago and was seriously craving a taste of home—especially a good kottu. I was thrilled to find this little gem of a place in Glasgow run by fellow Sri Lankans. The food was absolutely amazing—authentic flavors, generous portions, and cooked to perfection. Prices were very reasonable, and the service was warm and welcoming. It truly felt like a little piece of Sri Lanka right here in Scotland. Highly recommended for anyone missing home or just looking for great Sri Lankan food!
