We wanted a wall in our backyard along the hill our house sits on, to both finish the the look of the backyard and serve as a path to make it easier to access our kayaks. We also wanted a set of stairs up the front of the hill to the back door. Once they got started, the crew finished the job in about 4 days, even with some modifications along the way. The end result is functional and beautiful! We found Charles & Son through a neighbor's recommendation and now we hope to be able to recommend them to someone else. And we have a couple of other projects that we'll prioritize now that we've found the right team to handle them. Edit: We brought them back from another exterior wall and path project in the summer of '25. The new build is beautiful and seamlessly integrates with the work they did last year. Next spring we're going to bring them back to do our main walkway, and that will connect the terrific work they've done to the front of the house.
We hired Charles and Son to tear down our rotting deck and replace it with a patio and garden beds. Carlos Chabla, the owner, gave us a reasonable quote and created a computer rendering so we could see and discuss exactly what to expect. Once the work began, a dedicated crew completed the job even sooner than we expected. We had a few questions while the work was in progress and Carlos made the time to come over to answer them. When the work was completed, the crew did a thorough cleanup. We couldn’t be happier with the results and plan to use Charles and Son again in the future.
I hired Carlos and his crew to completely redo my backyard & front yard over the course of the last year. Not only did Carlos thoughtfully take us through design ideas and layouts before starting the job, but he was very transparent on costs and timing before starting and throughout. His guys did two MAJOR projects in less than 2 weeks (backyard in Nov/Dec and front yard and driveway at the end of July) -- they dug out existing retaining walls (front & back), rebuilt brand new, put extensive drainage throughout the entire property (we have water problems), built a brand new patio, expanded our driveway, dug it out and repaved, and planted all new around the property. (NOTE: Not all photos are included due to privacy). Cannot recommend Charles & Son Landscaping enough. I actually found them originally through a post in this group and am so beyond happy I went with them. Crew is polite, on time, works hard, keeps the yard clean, and consistently shows up. Absolutely give Charles & Son a call for any of your landscaping needs.
Charles and Sons just completed a full renovation of our backyard, and we couldn't be happier with the results. They were the only company we could find who could do everything we wanted: they built a deck, a pergola, a basketball court, and a new stairway; removed a pond; pressure washed the existing patio; and installed landscaping. After our first meeting, Carlos created a computer-generated design plan for the work, so I could see clearly how everything would look and agree on exactly what he'd do; this was at no cost and just part of his initial quote. Throughout the project, Carlos was a consummate professional and a pleasure to work with: always open and responsive to our many questions and ideas, always there when he said he'd be, and very extremely reasonable in terms of prices. His team did exceptional work -- they clearly take great pride in what they do and built structures that are built to last and display exceptional craftsmanship. They worked quickly and left the space clean and tidy each day.
I cannot say enough about Charles & Son. I received 4 different quotes for our deck and retaining wall and Charles & Son was the most reasonable. I priced out material for our deck & retaining wall myself so I had a good idea how much material would be for our deck and retaining wall and reviewed estimates with this in mind. Charles started the project when he said he would, kept the site clean the whole project, and finished when he said. He and his men are a pleasure to work with and their craftsmanship is excellent, plus, they don’t smoke which is a big deal for me as I am asthmatic. Another big plus for me is that Charles comes to give you the quote and he is the one overseeing the entire project from start to finish. There will be no middle man on your project or subcontractor building your deck or retaining wall. I couldn’t be happier with our end result and look forward to enjoying many years. We plan on redoing our black top driveway within the next few weeks and will only make one call, Guess to whom? Yep, the one and only Charles and Son!!
