I am always looking for free/low cost things to do with my toddler and this has easily has been one of the best things we've found 😁 everyone there was super nice, the exhibits are costumes from Parade the Circle which my daughter loved looking at, there were 2 studios open with art supplies and prompts to help you create, and before we left my daughter played with some blocks and picked a book out of their selection of free books. Would definitely recommend for anyone trying to get out of the house with kids, especially on a cold winter day.
Today while doing a workshop at Pivot it was the BEST experience for me and my crew! We got to once again enjoy all the colorful talent inside the space, meet new people and work with kids on creatively using chalk! Tevin helped us through this process and he went above and beyond showing us around to make us feel welcome. What a joy! What a great day at the Community Arts Center!!
Only went here once for El Día del niños but the atmosphere was welcoming, many tables to go to, music and art. Four stars because some of the art down the side hallways didn’t strike me as child appropriate.
This place was pretty cool. All of the impressive costumes from Parade the Circle are on display, there are murals, and at least 3-4 areas for making art. However, in spite of there being at least 5 employees or volunteers in the space, which was not busy (maybe only 10 total people), we had a hard time finding anyone to tell us what we were supposed to be doing in the drop-in art spaces. I believe each area had a prompt as far as what you could make with the materials, but only at one area did anyone tell us what the prompt was. Otherwise we were left to blindly try to figure it out. Benefit of the doubt, perhaps they were all busy with some behind the scenes work, and it’s a newish space, I think. So, hopefully they can iron that out or maybe just post a sign with the instruction or prompt so it doesn’t feel so chaotic. Have said that, I’m sure we’ll be back to check it out again sometime.
Extremely cool community art center! You can view previous Parade on the Circle floats and puppets and also make art! They have incredibly well-stocked open art rooms as well as set days/times for artist-led projects. All free and welcoming!
