We spent almost 700.00 on Upright yew trees and now they are all planted. We asked the employee that worked there, what they would recommend for a dwarf like tree to go around our pool. Now they are all planted, we find out they are toxic to dogs and we have two dogs. Our dogs were near the trees when we were planting and I had not idea at that time they were toxic. Perhaps this is something that employees should be mentioning before people decide to buy plants as many people may not know this. I would never have thought they were toxic. If the employee had mentioned this before we bought, we would never have purchased them. Please educate your employees on this as not everyone will search out trees before purchasing to see if they are toxic to animals. I usually put my trust into what the person, who is helping you out, is saying. Next time I will do my own research.
For over ten years and two houses I had only purchased my garden needs through Connon Nurseries. I had also told all of my friends to purchase their gardening items through Connon. No more. A little over 7 years ago I purchased 11 trees to go along the back fence line of my yard. These trees were Kindred Spirit oak trees that would act as privacy trees. I specifically picked them because they had a 6 foot spread at full growth. I measured out where the trees would go so that they would just touch up against each other at full growth. (30 years) When the trees were delivered I noticed that many of them were labelled as being trees that were not Kindred Spirits. I reached out to Connon Nurseries, but was told the trees were fine, that they were mislabelled and I had nothing to worry about, so I planted them. 7 years later it is clearly obvious that the trees that Connon told me were Kindred Spirit oak trees are not. They are much wider than the 6 foot spread. A little over a month ago I once again reached out to Connon Nurseries to let them know that I was correct when I noticed the trees were not the ones I purchased, and that I would like for this problem to be rectified. The communications department was quick to reply. Through our talks they asked me to take pictures to show the trees. I did. The communications department told me someone would reach out to me. However, after a week no one did, so I emailed them again. Another week went by with no one contacting me so I sent another email asking when I would hear from someone. I was told that Terry or Rob would get back to me to address the issue of the improper trees being delivered. It has now been a month and I have not heard from anyone. I could not be more disappointed with the way I have been ignored/treated. In the last two houses my wife and I have owned we had bought multiple autumn blaze maples, a tulip tree, multiple dogwoods, and what should have been 12 kindred spirit oak trees from Connon Nurseries. That is near 20 trees. (Not to mention the dozens of hydrangas, other plants, materials, and equipment I have bought through Connon.) Over a decade I have spent thousands of dollars at Connon. No more. Connon Nurseries is nowhere near the cheapest option when it comes to nurseries. However, I always felt that they had a great reputation for quality and customer service. I no longer feel that way. After being told that I was incorrect in my suspicions (without anyone ever coming to look at the trees mind you), and then ignored when the evidence was blatant, I feel like a customer who doesn't matter. A sucker. Be wary everyone! Connon Nurseries is not what they appear to be! (I hope these pictures help show that the trees are already over 8 feet wide in some spots. That I had to trim them back at the bottom so that there was room for my kids to play on the grass.) UPDATE: I just read the Connon response below. That response is over 3 weeks old and even though the response says that my situation has been brought to the attention of management, I STILL have not heard from anyone. What type of customer service is this? In addition to the lack of response from Connon, the comment about how the trees can be maintained with minimal pruning is comical. I have a 15 foot ladder. I have had to get up on it to try and prune the trees, but I can only reach so far. Therefore, I now have misshaped trees. The top of the problematic trees now overhang the bottom. Plus, the part of the trees I have pruned are sparse with leaves; so there is less privacy. I was not planning on commenting again, but the response from Connon is disappointing. Connon, do not tell me that you appreciate my loyalty and apologize for the lack of response on one hand, only to still not respond to me about this issue and tell me that I can maintain trees that you have not once been out to ever look at on the other hand. Shameful.
Connon excels in customer service. I lost an incredible oak tree that filled this corner garden bed. After adding a maple tree, I was ready to fill in the rest of the bed. I was introduced to Jane at the Waterdown store, who exceeded my expectations in plant selection, placement, and overall care. I do not have a creative mind so I am grateful for the guidance that Jane provided. I love my little garden and I can’t wait to watch it grow.
The only regret I have about this nursery is not finding out about it sooner. The selection was amazing and the selection was vast. All the stock looked very healthy and hardy and the prices were very reasonable considering every year the prices are skyrocketing 👍👍
Amazing!!!!! I’ve never seen a nursery like it. I did my homework on the plants we wanted and these guys were more than 10% cheaper than anyone else. Staff couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. Plants as you will see were so healthy 16 July update
