I had great experience there. I went there with my camp so I didn’t purchase any tickets or pay any money for that, so can’t tell for sure if the prices are reasonable or not! The museum is unusual cause it’s not only art, as if pictures, there’s so much more. We were welcomed by the stuff and had a great tour leading by one of them, I don’t remember the name of this lady but she was truly awesome!!!
5 stars because I love spaces like this. I went to see an Iranian film and I appreciated it even more after reading some analysis at home. One of the staff also made a thoughtful comment about the current situation in Iran, which really meant a lot. On the flip side, June Clark’s Witness didn’t do much for me—felt pretty unoriginal.
This museum is at the last stop of the free zone of the electric train making it easy to get to. The building is, as you would imagine contemporary with open rounded walkways, a dome, and several enclosed areas for exhibits. Don't miss the hummingbird exhibit where you can lie on bean bags and take in Life from the perspective of a hummingbird. The gift shop while small has interesting offerings.
A unique building with great exhibit spaces and a really accessible and friendly staff. The building is a work of art in itself. There are unique curved lines and textures throughout. The exhibit areas are very well suited to installations of various kinds. The exhibits are topical and provocative. The staff enhances your time with the pieces and gives the right amount of check ins. Both visits recently to the museum I found the staff to be extremely helpful and really engaging. I had the pleasure of talking with staff member Jade who was so passionate and knowledgeable. I observed her on two different occasions in the exhibit space and saw how she greeted guests and offered openers for conversation if desired. I spoke with her about the art pieces and their relationship to our current cultural climate. She was genuine and insightful. She is a true asset to the museum. The year membership is only double the single admission fee and well worth it. I plan to return again and again.
We had a wonderful time at Contemporary Calgary. While they were in between exhibits, the three running exhibits were very interesting and thought provoking. While they are happy to let guests explore on their own, the staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable if you want some additional information about some of the artists or pieces, or want to know about the space or upcoming events. The best part is admission is extremely affordable at $12, and a membership is only $24! They even have free admission the first Thursday of every month. I'm very grateful that Calgary has accessible art spaces like CC.
