As an adult dancer trying to get back into it, everything started out great at their water street location. The instructor definitely knew her material and the music choice was awesome, but sometimes the class seemed a bit fast paced/complex and there was a lot of rehashing the previous classes dance moves (which could be good or bad depending on how you view it). Basically, good luck trying to remember the routines unless you have a GoPro strapped to your head. And then suddenly there was less than a week notice and they were moving buildings to a shared location into the Milwaukee Youth Art Center. So in addition to Milwaukee traffic, you have to park/walk to a somewhat questionable area near where the old Milwaukee LGBT center used to be. I'll be 100% honest, this really isn't a place where I would want to be walking home at 7 PM when class gets out unless I have a G18 on me. Trust me sit there and watch the traffic that goes by for an hour after dark. For example, there is a full time parking lot security guard idling in his suburban which is usually not a good sign. (sleeping though!) And I definitely did not see "more parking space" because the parking lot is shared by all the other youth programs happening in that building. There was maybe ONE open spot and I got there early. So traffic, chore-like routines, and somewhat interesting location choice and it was a reluctant no from me after the last meet date. That's just more than I can tolerate and I ended up walking away with a pained grimace on my face. Super disheartening and I'll have to teach myself or find a decent adult hip hop class, which is arguably super hard to do in the area.
As a recent college graduate, Danceworks has been an absolute gift. I was looking for a way to reconnect with my love of musical theatre dance, and what I found was so much more — a welcoming, and inspiring community. The classes are fun, challenging, and full of positive energy, and the support from fellow dancers is incredible. I love taking musical theatre dance with Crystal, in particular. Her passion, encouragement, and joy make every class something I look forward to. Whether you're rediscovering dance or just starting out, I can't recommend this place enough!
I can’t say enough good things about this dance studio! After dancing all throughout my childhood, I spent about 15 years missing that part of my life and struggling to find a place where I could casually return to dance—but still be challenged and inspired. Most options I came across were either super intense or more fitness-based, like Zumba, which just didn’t scratch the itch for actual choreography. Then I found this studio—and I only wish I had discovered it sooner! The classes are fun, welcoming, and offer real choreography that makes you feel like a dancer again, no matter how long it’s been. The instructors are talented, supportive, and passionate about what they do, and the energy in the room is so uplifting. Whether you’re just getting back into it or dancing for the first time, this place makes you feel right at home. If you’re an adult looking for a place to move, express yourself, and reconnect with your love for dance, this is the place. I’m so grateful to have found it!
I was looking for somewhere to dance without having to make a commitment or spend a chunk of money, and I am so so pleased to have found Danceworks. Their schedule of classes is broad in style and level. I started going to Beginners Hip Hop and then to Intermediate for more of a challenge. Gabi instructed both classes and she is kind, helpful, encouraging, and very talented at dance. I definitely would recommend going if you’ve been curious. Start with a beginner’s class and it’s likely you won’t be the only one there who is brand new 😊
I have had the best experience with Danceworks! both my girls have been dancing there since toddlers and they have grown so much as dancers. Every teacher displays care, patience and passion for dance while creating an inclusive environment. Shout out to the amazing Sarah at the front desk for being so awesome!!
