This establishment got a James Beard nomination (not award) in 2024. It is absolutely baffling what for. The James Beard nomination process seems to be deliberately opaque in order to allow certain types of places to slip through, even when their food does not warrant it. With regard to this experience (savory items only): 1) We ordered the Soup of the Day, being told it was French Onion. The color was light beige, there was no cheese topping (Gruyère or otherwise). I did find just one piece of onion down at the bottom but it had not been remotely caramelized (it was transparent and limp). Maybe this was chicken soup, and we were mis-sold it? At $8 it was not worth the money; 2) The soup is in a cardboard container and served on a flimsy paper plate. As I picked mine up the plate buckled and it would have spilled if I hadn't been quick. The christ's sake, use a plastic plate like everyone else. No matter how many landfills it clogs it will not spill its contents over the staff or customer's clothes. You use plastic cutlery anyhow; 3) The ham and cheese sandwich aioli/dijonnaise (or whatever the moistener was meant to be) was missing. This made it dull and less tasty than even deli-chain sandwiches. Compare with Jimmy John's; 4) The salt was omitted from the "homemade focaccia bread" making it so tasteless we left it. This baker can't bake. 5) Don't take out part of the cost of the food to make the menu look less expensive. This is dishonest pricing. It is no good calling it "Health Fund". It still distorts prices that the consumer wants to compare with other establishments' menus; D'Andrews does have a "story" (even if they aren't so strong on the food). Since most of the nominations for James Beard awards seem to come from reporters at alternative city publications, this may be the important thing. They never actually pay for their own food.
4 star only because my chicken avocado sandwich didn't have much flavor and it needed at the least a bit of salt added to it. Everything else was SCRUMPTIOUS. The pumpkin pastry I had was thoroughly enjoyed by all 4 of us in my party. DELICIOUS.
Dean Andrews is the place to be in Nashville! The coffee, croissants, pastries, and sweets are all absolutely incredible—everything they make tastes fresh, buttery, and full of flavor. There’s indoor and outdoor seating, and it’s always lively and packed with people who know good food. Just a heads up—they close early at 2 PM so make sure you get there in the morning to grab your favorites. If you’re in Nashville, treat yourself to breakfast or coffee here—you’ll be so glad you did!
D’Andrews Bakery & Café is an absolute treat in Nashville! I stopped in for a Pecan Cinnamon Bun and an iced latte, and both were fantastic. The Pecan Cinnamon Bun was fresh, perfectly baked, with just the right balance of sweetness and crunch—truly one of the best I’ve ever had. The iced latte was smooth, rich, and refreshing, the perfect complement to the pastry. On top of the great food and drinks, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff is welcoming and attentive. Whether you’re looking for a quick coffee, a pastry to start your day, or a cozy spot to relax, this place is worth the visit. I’ll definitely be back to try more of their menu!
Visited the bakery around 11 on a Wednesday morning. There was a line, and many seats taken, but everything moved relatively quickly. I got a breakfast sandwich - may have been the best I’ve ever had - everything about the sandwich tasted fresh. We also tried a slice of cake and it was also heavenly. Highly recommend!
