A beautiful art museum with beautiful outdoor gardens to walk around in. Admission is free (donations accepted and encouraged) but it makes for a wonderful place to see some art and spend time outside
We couldn't believe this was free to visit. A beautiful garden along with an impressive collection of impressionist art. Our kids enjoyed the porcelain collection and the interactive area of the museum and we got drinks at the cafe. Such a pleasant afternoon.
The Dixon Gallery & Gardens is a beautiful destination for a day trip with family and friends, offering to be immersed in artwork and peaceful outdoor spaces. Stroll through a well-kept flower garden that leads into a shaded trail, perfect for enjoying fresh air and nature with loved ones. I recommend setting aside 2–3 hours to explore both the indoor art galleries and the flower garden and trail. The gardens are immaculate—ideal for taking family portraits or just a serene escape from the city. Inside, you’ll find two main painting galleries: a temporary gallery which currently features the Susan Watkins collection from the Chrysler Museum of Art and the permanent oil paintings collection. I especially enjoyed the works of Susan Watkins, a highly regarded painter from San Francisco. Housed in a beautifully preserved colonial manor, the Dixon Gallery & Gardens stands out as my top choice for its blend of art, history, and natural beauty. Best of all, admission is free, and there’s plenty of parking. Enjoy your trip to Dixon!
Dixon Gallery & Gardens is one of my all time favorite places in Memphis. The gallery is always a nice experience, and the gardens are exquisite. There are quiet spots to experience some zen, and the lawn is always great for a picnic or an event. We recently attended Symphony in the Garden for Mother’s Day and had a fantastic time! Would absolutely attend again. The Dixon remaining Free for Good is also such a service to the community, helping Memphis keep arts & culture accessible for all!
The greenhouse is such a gem! Intimate & peaceful alternative to the larger Botanic Gardens next door - there's a gallery featuring rotating artists & a little café. The winding paths lead past art installations & sculptures, a beautiful rose garden and a romantic fountain. Missed the spectacular tulip show this time, but it's a cozy place for a walk in any season.
