I’ll start with a fair assessment: this is fast-casual Mexican, not a mid-level restaurant, but Don Tacos markets itself as Mexican street food “taken to the next level,” even claiming to be Britain’s first birria taco spot — so expectations are naturally a bit higher than basic fast food. I ordered a taco plate with three tacos. The beef birria flavor was actually decent, but it was extremely oily, and the taste got lost under the heaviness of everything else. The sides were the bigger issue: the red rice was clumpy and stuck together in a way it really shouldn’t, and I didn’t finish it. The refried beans were served cold, and I’ve honestly never been served cold refried beans before — these tasted like they were slopped straight out of a can. I’m still not sure if that’s intentional, but it wasn’t appealing. The flour tortillas also seemed packaged rather than fresh. The tacos came in a crunchy orange shell that tasted borderline burnt, stuffed with mozzarella, which felt more like a novelty than something authentic, leaving a dripping pool of orange grease. Service also felt a bit disorganized — someone who arrived after me seemed to be served first, which set a strange tone from the start, after having already having been there almost 10 minutes… do I order at the window? The Jarritos (mandarin and pineapple) were enjoyable, but overall the meal didn’t justify the price. For around £40, it felt seriously overpriced for what you get. Would I return? Probably not. Not terrible, but if you’re hoping for something more authentic, friendly, or less greasy, you may be disappointed.
Visited Manchester and went to Don Tacos for lunch, the tacos were so delicious and the nachos were very well topped! Salsa was good level of spice and the guac was sensational, would highly recommend!
First time trying the #Mexican restaurant Don Tacos in the Manchester Piccadilly area. The #enchiladas and #churros were okay paired with #jarritosguava but I prefer other Mexican offerings like Panchos as they are more authentic plus there are no pork dish in this restaurant. #foodporn
I don’t get the hype. The raving reviews made my friends and I visit this place, but we were not overly pleased. The staff are friendly and try their best but the place is very small and looks run down. The food is mediocre at best, I’ve had way better Mexican elsewhere and the prices are on the expensive side. Portions sizes seem small but can fill you up easily. No idea how this gets raving reviews, maybe due to the first store, but it’s nowhere near it.
Tried out Don Taco’s Mexican (twice) because it was so good the 1st time I went back for a second visit. Originally I went to try Taco’s but I had to get the beef burrito and had it both times….wow! The best I have ever tasted. Freshly made to order, the rice was perfect, the beef was slow cooked with lots of flavour, there was salad in the burrito too. They were really accommodating if you wanted to remove things from the burrito - I asked for no beans in mine and the staff were accommodating because everything is put together at the time of order. Staff were friendly and service was great. The decor is cool too. Nice and chilled place to eat. I must visit again to try the Taco’s! Thank you
