First time coming to see Dayton and I was so excited, as he was highly recommended by a buddy of mine. He exceeded my expectations, very thorough with me on my idea, down to the styling and placement on my arm. I am just starting my tattoo journey and I was so impressed with how Dayton really helped me visualize this one and the others to come. He nailed it, 10/10 can’t wait for the next one! Thanks again dude!!
I am so impressed with my experience coming to this shop! This shop is on the second floor so its very private from street goers. There are couches in the waiting area with orginal art flash books and an entire floor to celling wall of hand painted flash that are so eye catching. They have water and stickers for customers along with jolly ranchers! My tattoo from Sequoia Rose was quick. I was quite nervous to get my back of calf done! She was light handed and knew exactly when I needed a bactine spray break! I am ever so grateful for the artists here at Ever True for making my experience so lovely. Dayton was welcoming in getting me settled in and I have already scheduled my next appointment for my other calf! Thank you, Drat for hosting such an awesome safe space
I came into Evertrue Tattoo last night with cash in hand, ready to get a memorial piece for my sister who passed away a few years ago. The timing seemed good because the artist said he had availability. I explained the story behind the tattoo. My sister played Dorothy in a production in my hometown of Fairhope, Alabama, and her memory has always been tied to The Wizard of Oz. I described the general concept I had in mind: her name, her birth and death dates, Dorothy in the poppy field walking toward the Emerald City, a rainbow, the yellow brick road, the blue sky, maybe with a few additional elements depending on what the artist thought would tie it together. I made it clear that I’m not an artist. I didn’t know whether the piece would work best on my leg or my chest and hoped he could help guide me on placement and size. I wanted something larger than palm-sized unless he advised otherwise. Instead of collaborating, he told me the idea “needed to be in a frame,” which wasn’t what I had in mind, but I was open to discussing different layouts. I was there to brainstorm with someone who understands design, not to hand over a fully finished blueprint. He asked if I wanted to sit down and think about it, so I did. I looked through more references, showed him more ideas, and he said, “Let me know what you decide.” I kept trying to explain that I needed his help shaping the concept. If a deposit was needed before he drew anything, he could have simply told me, but none of that information was offered. At that point, I realized he wasn’t the right artist for this tattoo. It felt like he didn’t want to brainstorm or create something original, which was disappointing because I specifically looked up artists who specialize in traditional work to find someone whose style I liked. Instead, it came across like he expected me to bring in a finished design from someone else so he could just replicate it. This tattoo is extremely meaningful to me, and I explained that. The interaction made me feel like he wanted something quick and easy, not a thoughtful, collaborative piece. I ended up walking out, and I won’t be returning. I’m sharing this so the shop can reflect on how to better support clients who come in with a concept but need an artist’s creative input. I have friends who are tattooers in Toronto, and they agreed that the details and references I gave were more than enough to begin brainstorming with me. I just needed engagement, ideas, and guidance, not a dismissal. Overall, the experience was frustrating and disappointing.
Absolutely love this shop! The artists were super cool, good relaxing environment, and love the privacy with having a shop upstairs. Sequoia did absolutely amazing work on a matching tattoo with a friend and I. I will definitely be coming back!
Got my tattoo done by Adam as a walk in appointment and he did a great job on the tattoo, provided a welcoming and kind first experience with a tattoo. He provided great care and information afterwards.
