We stopped for dinner at Fog Harbor Fish House during our stay at Fisherman’s Wharf. The atmosphere and the views were amazing. The food was fresh and delicious—we especially loved the Caesar salad with avocado and crab meat. The staff were friendly and attentive, and we never felt rushed during our meal.
Really good atmosphere, food was good (although I prefer the chowder from the crab house) the shrimp appetizer was really good, spicy and savory. The pasta was phenomenal as well. The only thing that I would point out would be the service, our server never gave us his name, and he seem like he didn't want to be there.. other than that food was great.
The food here is truly excellent. It's important that seafood be cooked well, and this was not even slightly overdone. Everything was salted gently, just enough to bring out the other flavors and not a bit more. The meal was also well paced. We got drinks, then complimentary warm rolls and butter, then my salad, and our entrees maybe 7 or 8 minutes later. We split a creme brulee for dessert and it was excellent. Smooth, rich, with a not-too- sweet custard, full of real vanilla bean flecks. The atmosphere was great. Beautiful dining room and clean tables. Being seated next to the servers station isn't always the best, but it did get us very quick attention when we needed it.
Great restaurant on pier 39, where you can see the sea lions just nearby. The highlight was the scallop risotto. The scallops were seared to perfection, with a nice crust on the outside and almost a buttery flesh that just melted away. The clam chowder was a classic and great to show guests who have never tried chowder. If the whole party has, I would probably order more from the menu. The cioppino was nice, a good mix of seafood, but no overwhelming strong flavours. Good sharing plate.
I really wish I could give this restaurant 5 stars. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was very upscale, though quite loud. However, the service was absolutely terrible. First of all, our waiter, Deniss (who never told us his name to begin with) never brought any bread and butter. Okay, small thing. Excusable. But then he then forgot an extra soup bowl I requested so I could share the chowder with my wife. I asked the guy who brought our food (a different guy) for a bowl. It never came. I finally asked Deniss a second time for a bowl and finally received it in between his socializing with the table next to us. After that, he came over again to socialize with the people at the table next to us. While doing so, he actually sat down on the edge of our table with us back to us while we were eating! Really?! He was totally oblivious to what he was doing and stayed there for a good minute or so. His squirming and gesturing shook the whole table. Of all the years of eating at restaurants of any quality, I've never had that happen. And to make matters worse, his socializing was very loud. For that matter the restaurant was loud in general. I'm not sure what they could do to fix that part. Lastly, toward the end of our meal when Deniss came to see if we wanted anything else, I said no, and he immediately handed me the bill. He had already prepared it! He didn't even ask if we wanted dessert. It felt as is we were being invited to leave. Terrible, terrible service. So, 5 for the truly great food, 1 (zero if I could) for the absolutely horrible service, which equals an average of 3. Sorry Fog Harbor. I really wish I could give you better, but you have some server problems to fix.
