Overall, a great family mini-cation. 4 adults young and old, 4 kids from 1 year to 14 years. Stayed 4 days/3 nights so didn't feel rushed. A great time for all with all the Christmas decorations, a play area on the lobby floor/seating area to watch shows or movies. So much to do; treasure hunts with magi wands, movies, we booked a snowglobe high tea (hot chocolate/decorating cookies/playing games=1 hour) and this Gramma loved it (the staff was super to us). We mined for gems. Ate mostly at the buffet, but many more food places too. Game rooms, an Arcade room, and retail stores inside the lodge where you could buy about anything. NO CASH transactions (there is a kiosk to exchange any cash you have into a debit card-cost $2👍🏼). A huge indoor swimming area (closes @ 8 pm) for all ages, where our Littles never wanted to leave 😉 The rooms we booked were clean and simple. Tee tiny table w/2 chairs, pullout vinyl couch (kids only-not comfy), king bed was great w/many pillows, a jetted tub to soak and relax in, but made the whole room too humid and hot, and yes the AC was on, but it needed more oomph. Happy to have a microwave and small fridge in the rooms. Next time, I think we'll book regular (cheapest) rooms needed to sleep and shower, that's it. Small bathroom. No closet to speak of, and no place to put luggage out of the way. Just pretty spartan, which I guess, is to get people out and about doing the fun stuff, it worked 😜 Services to the rooms was excellent, staff was so helpful to us.
It has been 4 years since the last time we visited the lodge. We normally go to Kalahari in Round Rock but it is 3.5 hours away from it. Since this is a last minute trip, 2.5 hours was better with 3 kiddos. The water park was smaller but my kids loved it. They only played in the kid area and the wave pool. We stayed for 2 nights and it gave them one full day at the water park. We didn't do the Magic Quest but we did spend a lot money at the arcade. They already asked to come back in March for a birth celebration. They seemed to enjoy the lodge more than Kalahari since they are younger but I would personally prefer Kalahari. Overall, it was a great trip.
We visited great wolf this past weekend before the kids return to school. We had a great time. We have been fortunate enough to vacation here several times over the past few years and this was the best time by far. During their renovations, things didn’t always go as planned and we seemed to experience “issues” every time we visited. We kept debating whether or not to return because it seemed to be going downhill every time we were there. Well, this time they really impressed us. The renovations seem to finally be completed. New carpets in the hallway. New flooring in the rooms. Great souvenirs in the Buckhorn. Parking was $19, but there were a lot of available spaces. We didn’t have to drive in circles looking for a spot like we have in the past. The kids activities were on time and the pack members in charge of them had great energy and responded great with the kids. Bingo even had prizes that the kids wanted to win (arcade cards). We usually drive off property to eat, but this time we ate at the lodge. Wait times were minimal. Food was great! If you have gone the last couple of years during renovations and experienced less than ideal conditions, I encourage you to give them another chance. We weren’t sure if we would ever return due to past issues, but was so glad we gave them another chance. We will go again if we find a good deal. If you go during “Snowlsnd”, be sure to be in the lobby when it “snows”. The kids enjoyed it so much. It snowed for about 30 minutes and all of the kids were laughing and having a great time by the tall Christmas tree and fireplace.
This was our family's 5th GWL location and each one is always a little different from the rest. I found this one to be the most modern and well designed but I found the hotel to be too big. I've never seen a GWL with 8 floors. That many rooms equal a lot more guests, while the water park and attractions felt the same size as the smaller GWL locations we've visit in the past. This made it feel very crowded in the waterpark and in the hallways. We waited in long lines at the slides and my kids complained they couldn't complete their Magiquest games because several times they had to wait in lines of 4-5 kids to complete tasks that took 5+ minutes per kid. My kids got frustrated waiting 20+ minutes in line to do one part of the game. We never had this issue before at other GWL locations and it made us feel like we wasted our money for this activity. I will say every staff member we interacted with was very pleasant and professional and the room was very comfortable. I especially appreciated the room being available at 10am on New Years Day, which was quite a nice surprise.
The location is easy to get to, the Lodge is very nice and lots of activities and help from staff in the lobby area and surrounding areas. The Premium 2 bedroom unit was a disappointment for the nightly rate. Plain & sparce. The 2 bedrooms didn't have overhead lighting, but 2 clear glass sconces next to the bed with the brightest white LED bulbs I ever seen. I had to drape hand towels on them to keep the light bulbs bearable. They could have done so much more with the decor. It's a shame. The family with 3 adults and 3 kids ages 10,7 & 5, had a great time with all of the fun activities, and swimming over the 2.5 days. The dinner buffet next to the lobby- all of the food was cold, even the prime rib was under 1 light, cold- yuk. $30 a person. The restaurant upstairs is much better so check it out. Starbucks is always busy and great assortment of food and open all day. Food is lacking, but we will absolutely go back and pack our own breakfast foods.
