Came in with my boyfriend for the first time. Had the warmest welcome in and had the pleasure of being served by “Sandy” thank you Sandy for elevating our experience. Not only will we be back for chicken but definitely will be back to experience her warm smile and excellent customer service. 10/10 recommend!!
The chicken at Gus‘s is good. I wouldn’t say that it’s world, famous chicken or that is the best chicken I’ve ever had, but it was decent. I tried the white meat, chicken, and the catfish. The breading was nice and crispy and the chicken was pretty moist. The catfish was a little small and not very tender. They use the same breading for the fish and the chicken I would have preferred more of a cornmeal batter for the catfish. They have a good selection of sides. I had the okra, greens, coleslaw and beans. The entire meal reminded me of a Sunday after church type dinner, but the food could have been seasoned a little bit more. If you ask me The servers are very friendly. The decor and the location are nothing to write home about, it is a big open concrete box.
I really thought that I'd tasted some of the best fried chicken when I visited a local restaurant in my home town. Well that's not the case in any stretch of my imagination. This place Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken is all that the name says and more. The staff is very professional and courteous. The food is more than just good.... it's AMAZING!!!! They actually cook the chicken as you order it which means you get it fresh out of the grease!!! It is very flavorful with just a slight spicy kick. The sides are just as tasty as the chicken, and that is what sets this place apart from any other chicken place that I've ever had and really that's no lie!!! Words can't describe just how awesome the food is at this place. All I can say is you have to find a location where you live, or close to where you live, or travel to a place where one is located, and try it out for yourself!!! There's one about an hours drive from where I live, and you can believe that the wife and I will definitely be going to find it!!! I rate this experience and this place an A++++++++++++++++++++
Good spot for fried chicken. Can be busy on weekends and nights. Food is good service can be slower when busy. Place seems understaffed. It took us a bit to get a table and we felt like we were blocking the doorway while waiting. I found a fly in my sweet tea and it took a minute for someone to help us out. Lots of options for everyone. Chicken and sides were good. Fried green tomato and okra were good too. Desserts were excellent. Wanted to try their chess pie but they ran out.
This past Saturday was my first visit. This is a real good layer back hometown restaurant downtown San Antonio. The atmosphere says “I ain’t fancy but I’ve been around, just chill”. Our waiter was Hector and he was very nice. It was four of us and between us all we had chicken breast and wings, coleslaw, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, baked beans and fried okra. The flavor of the chicken is very good, it’s kind of like a beer batter. One of the wings was so small I thought it may have come from a hen. But, other than the small wing the chicken was really really good. The coleslaw was just right according to my husband and he loved the baked beans too. My friend had the macaroni and cheese and collards but, this wasn’t her first time. This is her all time favorite and she gets it every time she goes. Now the chicken was good but that fried okra!!!! THAT FRIED OKRA is on point. All of the food can out hot and fresh. All of the staff were welcoming and friendly. If I had to make a suggestion it would be to make it clear that the bathrooms are coed. There are three doors back there in the “RESTROOM” I saw a man come out of one door, the second door was locked and the third door was the kitchen.
