Place didn't advertise correctly and staff was rude. If you are looking for hip hop classes, this is more of a hip hop style weight loss class. Similar to how people participate in zoomba for weight loss. The staff was extremely rude. I arrive at 8:15 like I was informed and apparently you're supposed to arrive at 8. The instructor seeing I'm a new person couldn't put the two together in a rather rude way tells me that I'm late. I offered her proof the texts told me otherwise. She wasn't helpful at all for payments and seemed to almost want to yell at me the entire process. Only venmo and cash is accepted, don't bother arriving if you use modern forms of payment like a card or zelle. So I left, no point of being treated like a school kid who's missed the bus for the 7th time when I'm the paying customer. *Updated review* I changed this from a 1 star to a 4 star as I have to give the owner credit, she did call and apologize for the misunderstanding. I do appreciate the professionalism.
I’ve been taking Hampden Dance Arts adult classes for almost three years, and I highly recommend the studio! I started with one adult ballet class and found my passion for dance so reignited that I now take multiple styles of dance over multiple days per week and even perform in their yearly recitals. I love all the teachers and class types (ballet, modern, jazz and tap—they also have hip hop which is very popular, and the only one I haven’t taken!) The teachers at Hampden Dance Arts strike the perfect balance between treating dance as a serious discipline that you can work hard at and improve at even as an adult, and as a way to exercise and reduce stress for those of us who are not going to be professional dancers. This teaching style keeps me engaged and motivated to keep coming back without feeling overwhelmed or burned out. This, combined with the personal attention and relationships with the teachers, makes Hampden Dance Arts my favorite studio. The only danger of coming here is that you might get addicted. 🤣
I absolutely cannot say enough about Hampden Dance Arts and Ms. Jenn. My son has been dancing at this studio since shortly after it opened, and it has been an incredible experience. He has grown so much in so many was because they have found the perfect balance between challenge and encouragement. Ms. Jenn has always gone out of her way to find ways for my son to participate, grow and thrive. This place is the BEST!
We put our 3 year old daughter into two sessions of ballet at Hampden Dance arts. We were a little put off at first by how stringent the policies on the website were about things like leotard and tights color and other details, but went for it. We found her teacher Jen to be pretty good with the little kids. She was patient and capable with them, and remembered to make it fun from what we could see. Our daughter loved the class, so we chalked up the aggressive policies to being more for older students. When it came time for the recital though things didn't go nearly as well. The very stringent policies returned around things such as hair style and sock color. This was a class of toddlers. The actual recital was at Baltimore Soundstage, an odd venue for sure. Tickets and parking were expensive. Nearly $30 per person just for tickets. After making everyone line up on the sidewalk and wait for minimum 20 min to get into the space, the event also started nearly 30 min late. They also ran out of chairs, which was odd since it was ticketed so shouldn't you know the attendance? Overall the entire experience of the recital soured us on the studio. While the weekly classes were pretty solid, we won't be returning in the fall because of how poorly run the recital clearly was.
I always wanted to learn ballet as a child but never got the opportunity. When I was finally ready to learn, many places did not offer adult ballet. After some thorough research I found this place. I started going two days a week but loved it so much that I am doing three. The instructor is patient and give constructive feedback and very welcoming. No regrets and I also lost 20 pounds.

Where passion meets movement—inspiring dancers of all ages and levels in Baltimore.
