I was disappointed with my stay overall. We stayed for two nights and did not receive any turndown service, nor were we offered one. When paying over £150 per night, this is something to be expected as standard at a four-star hotel. After raising this complaint, I was told that turndown had been offered and declined, which is simply not true. This is frustrating to hear, as it feels unfair to be given incorrect information. Even if a room is occupied at the time, industry standard would be to return later once guests have left the room. We were also allocated an accessible room, which we hadn’t requested. While this wouldn’t normally be an issue, the bathroom had a significant drainage problem (something I’ve since seen mentioned in other reviews). Water pooled and flooded the bathroom floor, and without turndown service we had to mop up the water using our towels. This appears to be a maintenance issue that really needs addressing. Overall, the stay felt disappointing, particularly given the price point. That said, the spa was lovely and the bed was very comfortable, which were definite positives.
Hotel interior was nice including rooms with quality furnishings and bed. Staff were good. Room was freezing. Not just for us but also our friends who stayed in another room. Felt like they had forgot the most important part of a hotel experience - comfort. Tried everything to get the thermostat to provide warm air but it was constantly cold. Must be a thing as we found a wall heater in the wardrobe. But that was too small to heat a large space.
What a beautiful hotel. We couldn't fault it. The staff were all polite, friendly and helpful. The spa was beautiful, in the historic basement of the hotel. My wife had a spa treatment and said it was the best she'd ever had. Our room was upgraded without us requesting it, which was very much appreciated. The location is perfect for shopping, restaurants and night life. Highly recommend.
Had a lovely festive afternoon tea in the restaurant today. The staff were all friendly and gave excellent service. The menu was talked through and we were shown which item was which. The food itself was delicious! The scones were the best I’ve ever eaten and I’ve had lots of afternoon tea 😂. We couldn’t finish it all but they gave us some boxes to take the rest away with us. The setting was beautiful and I would happily have afternoon tea here again. Thank you!
Hotel is really central and in a beautiful if quirky old bank building. Room was excellent - on a girls trip for Christmas shopping we had a delux twin and it was great - huge bathroom with two basins, huge shower and a separate bath. Breakfast was included on our rate and it was very nice. We were able to order cooked as well as continental options and both enjoyed the menu choices. Small gripe - we arrived at 2pm and stated checkin was 3pm. I asked if the hotel was busy that night and was told no quite quiet, however, our room was not yet serviced and avialable. If a hotel only has a few rooms let for the coming evening I would have thought it would be a good idea to do them first so arriving guests could be accommodated a little earlier if needed. The receptionist did text me once the room was ready which was a nice touch as we had gone out to explore Bristol, and they stored our bags at the beginning and end of our stay. We chose the hotel primarily because it had a pool and looked nice online. You have to book a one hour slot as the pool / jacuzzi area is v small. Spa is underground down some v steep steps so not good if you are less mobile (Don't think there was a lift) and the pool is in an old bank vault. Maximum two people in it at a time and you have to climb up steps then down a ladder to enter, again not good for any disabled or less mobile visitors. We were fine but if I had brought my elderly parents they would have been unable to use the spa facilities. We had a room overlooking Corn Street and on a Monday they started emptying bins at 5am so we were up earlier than planned! Not sure if this is only once a week, Tuesday morning was quieter. Overall a good experience for us and we would stay at the hotel again
