Two wrong cakes, and no communication. I ordered a cake far in advance. when I picked it up, they'd put a chocolate frosting on it (which was wrong) but they told me that they had another red velvet cake on hand, and they could put my message on it and give me that one. It was also a bigger size, so I was pleased with the generous substitution. After the candles had been blown out, we cut into the cake, and it was the wrong cake--wrong in every way. Some light-brown kind of spice cake with bits of nuts and carrots in it, and it didn't have cream cheese frosting, which I was really clear about when ordering. Nobody finished their slice. I called the Bakery, and several days later (granted, it was a very busy time of year) I hadn't heard back, so I called again. The person on the phone said that the manager would be back the following day and would return my call first thing in the morning. The next day, 15 minutes before closing, I still hadn't heard back, so I called again. They said the manager would reach out to me the following day. The next day, a refund posted to my bank account and there was never any call back at all. When you give someone the wrong cake, a refund is not enough to make it right--because not only did you not provide what was paid for, you also made the event into an embarrassment and a disappointment. And when you tell a customer you will call, you should call. This has been one of the most sloppy and disrespectful experiences I've had with any business.

For anyone else who may be wondering, the lemon meringue pie is not made with a true lemon curd, but rather a vaguely lemon-flavored yellow starch-based goo, such as you might find in a filled donut. It lacks tartness, and has a vaguely chemical/artificial aftertaste. I realize it's not common to find lemon meringue pie with real lemon curd that includes the flavor from the zest, but I was hoping a long-standing bakery such as this might be the exception. My search continues.

The cake's decorations, including the stunning flowers with glitter, were even more beautiful than I anticipated, Beautiful inside and out, the crumb, frosting, and ganache were perfect. Your commitment to quality and attention to detail made my daughter's birthday celebration even more special. Thank you for your exceptional work.

We love Helen Bernhard bakery! I called to order a birthday cake for my mom and received the best customer service over the phone! I learned there are additional options when you call to order (such as buttercream frosting) vs. ordering online. I mentioned my mom loves daisies and was thrilled to see the artistry on the cake when I went to pick it up. This was a 7” standard chocolate cake with raspberry buttercream filling and chocolate buttercream frosting on top. There was enough cake for 7 adults with some leftovers.
