I cannot speak highly enough of the Hodge Canine team. I adopted a sweet but very wild Frenchie mix from Maricopa Animal Care & Control and decided to do the board-and-train program with Hodge. The difference has been incredible—he has been so much easier to train and continues to develop even after completing the program. Throughout the month, they sent regular video updates, which made me feel completely comfortable having him away for that long. What I appreciated most was how focused the Hodge Canine team was on my specific goals for my dog. They took the time to clearly understand what I wanted out of the training and tailored the program accordingly. We’re still working on some socialization since he gets overly excited, but he is so much more obedient, and I learned a lot as an owner to help him continue to succeed. I’m incredibly grateful for the experience and would highly recommend Hodge Canine to anyone considering professional training.

I started working with Hodge Canine when I was trying to assess whether my new heeler, Lena, should do a board and train. She lacked confidence in a way I had never experienced. Every new “thing” or experience was scary. My doodle, Lindy, has always been a sweet girl but struggled with direction and stubbornness. In hindsight, I was just not trained on how to train her :) Fast forward to spring 2025, Lena had gained enough confidence where a board and train would benefit her, and I can honestly say the dog I sent is not the dog that returned 4 weeks later. Girlfriend had grown some major confidence, and it’s just snowballed since. From the dog who was scared to walk into a new room and would hide from the pool, she’s now the first on a pool floatie. Watching both girls grow individually and together through continued training and a follow-up board and train has been amazing. The biggest test came when we took in a family members cat into the home. The intensity, especially from Lindy, concerned me for the cat’s safety and overall happiness for all three. Joe spent extra time working with Lindy on redirecting her focus, and within weeks our household shifted from tense to calm and fully integrated. It has still only been 4 months and all three now relax, sleep nearby, and coexist peacefully. I cannot recommend Hodge Canine enough. Joe and Emily are both amazing to work with. The philosophy is fun for the dogs - training becomes a game - and for me, I now know that behaviors are taught before the command. There’s no need for the word “stay”; it’s command followed by release. I am beyond grateful, and I know we’ll be back for more tune-ups in the future!

Joe has done an excellent job training our dog, Johnny, as well as me and my wife on how to better our pup’s behavior. We boarded him with Joe for 4 weeks and then had 4 follow-lessons. I was greatly satisfied with the updates we received and was amazed by the transformation in our dog. Johnny used to tear up the house and lash out due to his severe separation anxiety, but after training with Joe he’s much more calm, confident in himself, and receptive to our commands. And since training with Joe we know how to best approach introducing our dog to new environments and stimulation. Joe has been such a blessing to us and I’m sure he can be for you too.

We were unable to potty train our rat terrier for 5 years. As a result of the constant mess our 10 year old was also going in the house. Thanks to Joe's expert help both dogs now go outside to potty all the time. I told him a year to train them but he said a few months and he was right. What a huge difference in my house. Jimmy is also more confident than he was before. He has always been the happiest dog we have ever had and super smart. Joe taught us how to train him and within a few months he was trained. Thank you Joe so much! I would highly recommend Joe to help you with all your dog training needs. He has amazingly great ideas by custom tailoring the training.

We did 10 private classes with Joe at Hodge Canine, starting with a consultation where he explained his philosophy: he trains the owners to train their dog. We really appreciated that approach because it gave us the tools, confidence, and understanding to work with Reggie our English Labrador every single day. We began lessons when Reggie was just four months old, and the training helped us establish a solid foundation of trust and communication right from the start. Joe’s sessions were clear, practical, and tailored to our needs, and he always took the time to explain the “why” behind every exercise. His guidance has not only improved Reggie’s behavior, but has also strengthened our relationship with him. If you’re looking for a trainer who is knowledgeable, patient, and truly invested in helping you and your dog succeed, we cannot recommend Joe and Hodge Canine enough.
