The only reason I am giving 2 stars was because the food was very good. The problem is that we waited too long to receive our meal. I ordered the 8 piece sashimi chef‘s choice. You would think it took so long to get to me that he would’ve put a few extra pieces but no, it was exactly 8 pieces and they were very small and it was overpriced, my wife got two rolls. The whole meal was $125. unfortunately, we left there not very happy
I write this review with the upmost respect to the owners. This establishment was the worst sushi I’ve had in all of Laredo. Keep in mind I’ve been to the hole in the wall sushi places that even sell tacos… keep in mind we placed the order in store, not over the phone. For starters, the quality of product was no where near fresh. We had ordered a crispy tuna roll and it honestly tasted like it was left out from an order, refried and then sold to us. (I’ve worked in the food industry for 20+ years and have seen this disgusting act done plenty of times, because owners don’t want to “throw away product”.) The reason I could tell was that the rice was extremely hard and the taste was extremely fishy. So much that even the sauces didn’t cover up the taste and smell. Secondly, what this establishment is charging for 6 and 5 pieces of sushi. Both supposedly being “premium rolls”. $15 for 5 pieces and $13 for 6. I understand the prices such as sushi madre because of their quantity but more than that their consistency with quality and attention to detail. At this moment I don’t recommend this establishment with all due respect. Maybe a bad day for people who are cooking, but that inconsistency with quality is what causes you to lose customers. The ambiance was really nice and low light, more laid back like of a few places in Chicago that stood out to me and the employees were B+.
First time & Not impressed, service was not hospitable; we were rushed to order, eat and pay. Food was freshly made but tasteless , overtly priced . We had a mixed rice and 2 rolls , 2 teas, they don’t have complementary water you have to buy it, no miso as an entry either : the bill was over $65 dollars. Sorry to say we won’t be back. And the owners were so obnoxious loud & rude. The waitress was nervous & considerate: seems like she sensed our discomfort.
Made a return visit for myself and a first time visit with my partner and I must say, the service was absolutely amazing! However, I have two qualms food wise that left us a bit disappointed. The first was that the rice was either undercooked or a type of rice that isn’t typically used for sushi. Not sure if it was long grain but I tasted crunch in it that wasn’t the sesame seeds. Needless to say I was disappointed by the sushi that I had been bragging about as being the most authentic in all Laredo. Second qualm was a bento box lunch special that contained a beef and broccoli and aforementioned crunchy rice. The beef was cut incorrectly and it made it hard to chew in a non jerky type of manner. The vegetables were grilled to absolute perfection… however the main event being cooked incorrectly and in such large chunks made it hard to maneuver with chop sticks. Also ordered the gyoza fried as an appetizer that was superb and had the perfect crisp and also the miso soup that is always served hot and so very full of flavor. I was underwhelmed by the entrees and even noticed they had many lunch orders they were preparing… maybe that was why the dine in cuisine lacked, but either way, the service was so very amazing. I don’t know if a I’ll be returning and it was sad to have to go to Burger King next door for lack of want and satiety. I’m at a loss for suggesting this place for a much needed lunch date with my husband.
Sushi was delicious and the staff was amazing. The gyoza was perfect and I loved the chicken fried rice. Small dining room about 9 tables. They do offer beer and saki.
