The food was good, the udon had lots of flavour and my friend enjoyed the omurice. The staff were friendly but the service was very slow. I booked the table for 7pm but at 6:45pm the staff called me asking where we were. I said we had booked for 7pm. I double checked the booking email which was correct but there was no apology from the staff for their mistake. The decor was lovely but there was a lot of cooking smoke coming from the kitchen area. Not so good if you are sensitive to smoke.
It was a nice cozy meal. The ramens where delicious, but I think they could put a whole egg instead of just half and just one more pork slice; but honestly would be happy with the full egg. The takoyaki was really good too! Honestly it was kinda the star of the whole meal. Service was nice and the atmosphere is cute.
I highly recommend this Izakaya. A hidden Gem 💎 From a Scottish lad who’s lived in Tokyo and Kamakura. And been to Japan several times. It’s authentic and feels just like ur in the back streets of Tokyo! Omoide Yokocho.. I highly recommend their Yakitori and Hell Ramen. Umami flavours and I will be back. Their Customer Service from the lovely female staff member is also 10/10 Thank you Hope Izakaya 🏮 🧡
I LOVED the food. My Bacon and Tomato Yakitori was super flavourful! And my Tonkotsu/Hell Udon was wonderful, (though no spice came through, not enough of a loss to where I gave it less stars though). The atmosphere was wonderful! I loved the music they played. (Racing Into the Night by YOASOBI, and other songs). My meal cost £13.70, and it’s definitely worth the cost. Would recommend on a trip through Edinburgh! (Note for restaurant: ありがおうございます♪やばい!
Let's start with the positives, attentive service, quiet music and the ox tongue udon was superb! The sushi salmon with the egg on top is truly a nice idea but the roll was not that tight. The Chashu unfortunately was a disappointment, as it felt more like left overs than a complete dish. A bowl of rice with 2 slices of cucumber, 2 cherry tomatoes, half an egg, a pinch of seaweed, 2 kamabokos and just 2 slices of pork is not enough to constitute a full meal. I will come back when I am on a starvation diet.

Authentic Japanese izakaya experience in the heart of Edinburgh, serving ramen, yakitori, and cozy vibes.
