This the original location and a historic place in Houston for pies. Also this is where the idea foe the Compaq luggable was drawn up on a napkin or receipt. It's in the movie and other documentaries. Had the Carrot Pecan - I know, not a pie -which was awesome. Not dry. Just right, especially with an ice cream kicker. Everyone loved their selections. Open everyday including Christmas Day. It was quite a busy day. Always loved this place going back to 1984 for me. Definitely recommend for great food, not only pies and to see a cross-section of our city. Enjoy!
This is my first time purchasing pies/cakes from them and there were not as good as I thought they would be. The buttermilk pie has such a weird taste and after taste, I couldn't eat the whole pie. I have had better. Money wasted. Would I purchase different cakes next time, absolutely not.
Popped in and tried it out. The food was not bad just ok. The service was great, the server answered all of my questions and made great recommendations in regards to allergies and likes. The meatloaf had good favor, was just a little dry and the chicken didn't have much flavor. Didn't care for the brown gravy as ot had a tangy flavor. The potatoes were delicious.
I like the food here, but the waitress only came by three times. The first was to take our order, the second time was to bring us our food, and the last time was to make sure we were still doing fine, but we didnt need her anymore at that time. I need her to come before the last visit so I can ask for a box to take my food home so I ended up giving the rest to my boyfriend to finish.
Went during lunch time in the middle of the week. Service was a little slow but it was busy and the waitress did miss a few things that we had to ask for, but she was nice. Some good lunch specials for a good price with good portions. We got the carrot cake, coconut pie and pumpkin pie to go and they are all highly recommended.
