Great school for taking your young kids to learn swimming. We started our daughter when she was 15 months old in the parent and me class... Monica was great with the kids and was such a great influence for all the kids. My daughter has since graduated from the parent and me class and is taking private lessons with Monica and really looks forward to each lesson. I highly recommend this place to teach water safety to young children.

I have taken my three sons & son-in-law for swim lessons, they range from 14 To 23 years old. My boys all already knew how to swim, but my 18-year-old was about to head off to college to Hawaii and we were nervous about him going into the ocean, especially since he had recently expressed he did not feel he was a “strong swimmer”. My son-in-law is from Hawaii and did not know how to swim. My kids have grown up in the pool and we never realized that they needed professional lessons until my son had told me that. I guess it’s something you never really think about but we parents probably should, I mean, how strong of a swimmer are they really ? Swimming in a pool is one thing when their feet can touch the bottom or they Did you can reach for the edge of the pool, but swimming in an ocean or lake is something else. I’ve heard lots of great things about Jim Herrick so I did not hesitate taking my kids there. My boys were a little nervous, given their age but they were greeted by a friendly staff, no one made them feel embarrassed. The instructors definitely worked them, challenged them, and pushed them until they were exhausted but all with a healthy balance of praise, encouragement, and support. My son has been going to college now for a few months and goes into the water often. I have asked him if he feels like his swim lessons have helped and his response was, “I can totally see the difference. I can tread water and feel comfortable and confident. Had I not had those lessons I would be struggling and would be nervous in the ocean.” Patty who works in the office has been wonderful, so kind and professional; You can tell she truly cares about the kids (and adults) . We would highly recommend Jim Herrick Swim School, it’s worth the investment, and peace of mind.

Unfortunately we did not have a good experience here. My 5 yo was taking a week long immersive lesson. Our instructor on day 1 was great in that she struck the right balance between pushing my son and positive encouragement. Our day 2 instructor was so harsh it was uncomfortable to watch. My son left in tears. I spoke to a woman in the office after his lesson who was also unkind and told me she would “review the tape and see for herself”. I was a little shocked by the attitude. I told her I understood she didn’t believe me but as a parent who watched the lesson, I was uncomfortable. I guess their style of instruction is more of the old school method to push kids by being harsh and mean instead of using positive reinforcement. Just beware if your child doesn’t respond well to this style of teaching.

The best swim school! The entire staff is awesome. I’m a nanny and have taken kids to many different swim schools over the years. I was so happy to discover Jim Herrick Swim School when I started working in LA. Currently enjoying watching a toddler learn to swim with Monica. She’s amazing! Such a skilled and nurturing teacher. The baby (now toddler) loves his lessons with her and can swim at 16 months. He learned to adore being in the pool while attending Parent and Me group classes led by Monica and Trisha. Two terrific teachers and a pool full of babies and toddlers! Such fun!

I will be the first to admit that I was a little apprehensive about having my six year old take private swimming lessons at a residential home that I found via a Google search, but this place surpassed my expectations as far as astethics. This school has two swimming pools, two playground areas, multiple picnic tables in between with toys for kids waiting for lessons or waiting for their sibling to be done with their lessons, it has two bathrooms, two changing tables with lots of free sample diapers, Wipes, etc, it has a tv area with kids chairs and toys, a small parking lot for customers, and a friendly office staff. The residential street is a bit crowded so parking could be an issue depending on the time of day, but our lessons are at 820am so we haven't had any issues thus far. The instructors we have had so far have been nice, somewhat strict which may come off as unpleasant to some but is exactly what my son needs to focus and learn what he is suppose to in the two week course. The lessons are run on schedule for sure which is nice when planning out the rest of your day. I'm very impressed with this business and how they have thought about and ultimately are catering to everyone who could or would enter their facilites needs. I have no complaints and am hopeful that at the end of the two weeks my son will be able to do the things mentioned in the package I purchased for him. It has only been 3 or 4 lessons and he has already learned so much. Thank you Jim Herrick Swim School!
