We ate at Journey to the Dumplings in downtown Sacramento with my two daughters. I ordered the vegan dumplings, while my daughters had the dumplings in oil sauce and the string beans. My daughters enjoyed it but for me, it was a bit overrated. The vegan dumplings were just okay, and the prices felt very high. We spent close to $100 for three people, which didn’t feel worth it for the food. That said, the staff was pleasant and the atmosphere was fine. Being in downtown, parking was difficult.
Came for lunch on a Friday. Plenty of spots, quick service. Pork xiao long bao [9.5/10] 👍👍 - These are reaaally good. - 8 pieces, Soup filled, good size, good flavour - Expensive, but might be normal Sacramento price ($18.5) - Could come steamier Beef noodle soup (8/10) 🍜 - Decent - Chunky meat and chewy noodles - Not really that spicy
Would give the food between a 4 and 5 if I could. We ordered the fried shrimp balls, the duck and noodle soup and the pork soup dumplings. The dumplings were by far our favorite. Absolutely AMAZING! The shrimp balls were really flavorful and juicy (in a good way) and crunchy and crisp on the outside. The duck soup was the only thing kind of lacking. It didn't have a whole lot of flavor. They also were very accommodating for children. Had plastic children's plates and kid sized silverware. Overall a great restaurant. We would go again and you definitely recommend to anybody in the area.
The dumplings are great. The sauces and condiments for the dumpling are great. The flavors in the noodle dishes such as the chow mein are spot on. I really like the food here and plan to come back many times to try all the offerings
This place had a lot of hype, and I used to go to the old location in Elk Grove. But man… what happened? Everything was right below mid. Nothing was bad, but where’s the soul? (Especially at these prices) Here’s what we ordered: Pan fried soup pork bun - Gummy, no flavor, too hot. Peking spare rib - Chewy, bland, covered in tasteless red goop Chicken fried rice - Greasy, no salt at all, chicken had weird texture Hong Kong noodle chicken - Decent sauce, noodles were too crunchy, bland overall Siu Mai - Decent, tasted like frozen ones from the store. Egg tart - Decent, again it tasted like a Trader Joe frozen item. This place looks like Chinese food and has the shape, but it has no soul and no flavor. With all the other great Chinese places in Sacramento, don’t waste your time coming here. Heard of Din Tai Fung? This is Din Tai NOT Fun.
