Place is nice for a healing escape. Just don’t eat the food. Gave me food poisoning so bad. It was coming out both ends at the spa at 2am. I think the “cooks” don’t understand. Miso doesn’t keep long because of the bacteria count. Also the spicy chicken was old chicken. Especially when it took him the time of a 3 minute microwave to serve it to me. usually when you go somewhere to heal you shouldn’t expect food poisoning. The guy working the desk was nice enough to take the food off my bill though. The people who own it seem really cool but the ppl who are the “cooks” I would never eat from again. Just bring a backpack and bring your own stuff. It was so bad I left my favorite hoodie there on accident I got for Christmas. Wasn’t a fun time. But I blame the food. Not the spa. Just bring a backpack pack a sandwich and don’t tell anyone. If you plan on staying here long. I’d also wait to use the bath till the crowd times leave for obvious reasons. They have these signs about not engaging in romance yet they aim to have this traditional bathhouse in a city that’s 50% homosexual. In Japan. That rate would go down to 5% maybe lower. So it’s kind of a double standard you can’t wear a damn bathing suit.
This is normally a relaxing place, but it’s ruined by clueless people who ignore the 'quiet' signs posted everywhere. Management only enforces the rules half the time; the rest of the time, there’s no one around to tell people to be quiet. Today is on another level, though—there’s random, loud banging that sounds like construction. Definitely not relaxing. 😑
Everything was very clean, good variety of saunas and pools. It does get rather busy at peak times. Food is nothing to write home about and a little overpriced. Overall an enjoyable experience and a nice way to spend a few hours, especially in the winter.
I've been to plenty of Korean saunas (when I lived in Korea) and I'd say that my experience at King Spa landed somewhere in the middle of these experiences. I only paid $32 to enter as I had a Groupon, so be sure to check on there because without the coupon it's a $75 entry fee which frankly, is a bit overpriced. The women's spa area was clean and refreshing, and most everyone was following the rules and keeping space. I do wish there were a few more pools to relax in (there are only four) but the ones that were there were nice. However, I felt they didn't keep the pools that hot and it would be nice if they listed the temperature of the pool next to it (as is common at pretty much all the jimjilbangs I went to in Korea). I didn't get a scrub so I can't comment on that. There weren't very many amenities provided, especially for the price. Only two hairdryers and no hairbrushes available. I brought my own comb and hairbrush and I would advise you do as well. The sauna rooms were nice as well, however I didn't think any of them were kept that hot. I felt like they were a bit toned down and I definitely wish they were kept hotter, but that's a matter of personal taste I guess. I got the deluxe facial and I enjoyed the experience immensely. Sylvia did a fantastic job and I found the experience relaxing, however $220 is a bit on the steep side for the experience. I chalked it up to a new year's treat, but it wouldn't be something I would pay for regularly. The second floor relaxation areas are probably the highlight of the facility. Multiple areas for lounging and all were kept quiet, and there's a few TVs to watch as well. None of the places I went to in Korea had lounge chairs this nice, so kudos to King Spa for keeping theirs nice. If you had an overnight layover and needed a place to sleep for a few hours, you definitely could here. Now for the cons: • The food is very overpriced for what you get. I got the spicy pork bibimbap and while it was good, for $20 I would expect a bigger portion or at least more side dishes. It didn't even come with kimchi or danmunji, which I would expect with bibimbap. The portion of gochujang was tiny as well. Plus the bottle of green tea I got was $8.99--an atrocious price for the portion. Unfortunately they can get away with charging these prices since you're trapped inside and are likely to get hungry during your time here, but the food really isn't worth the price. • While most people followed the rules, I do wish there would've been a bit more enforcement. There was someone in the nude spa area who was wearing skin color swim bottoms or underwear, which is explicitly not allowed (and affects the cleanliness of the spa). There was also someone in the steam room (in the nude spa area) who was using their phone, which is absolutely ridiculous in an area where people are naked and phones aren't allowed. I wasn't happy to see this and I wish the staff were a bit more proactive in enforcing some of these rules for safety and cleanliness. • I also was unhappy to see three kids in street clothes using one of the sauna rooms, considering street clothes aren't allowed in the facility passed the locker rooms. Multiple staff seemed to notice this and eventually an adult man came in to talk to them. It was then I realized that this man was the manager/owner, as afterwards one of the employees came up to him to ask a question. So it turns out if you are the owners kids you can get away with not following the rules. This really rubbed me the wrong way because it sets a bad precedent for everyone else, and I'd be surprised if such behavior was tolerated in Korea (where rule enforcement is saunas is INCREDIBLY strict). --- Overall, my experience at King Spa wasn't bad. If you get one of the more expensive facials you get a coupon to come back for free, which unfortunately expires in one month. After that, you can use the coupon to pay for $22 admission, which isn't bad. I'll likely come back here to use the discount coupon, but I'll tailor my experience to try and maximize my $.
Gets it done, but not as good as WiSpa in LA or even Olympus Spa in Seattle. Food was pretty meh, pools weren’t that relaxing or plentiful, and the massage I had left me so sore I could barely walk. The Korean scrub was the best part- skip the facial- not high quality.
