Its been a number of years since we have visited the store and wanted to make a special trip over to witness history within these walls. Peter and his wife were absolutely delightful and giving of their time with stories and conversation about pieces and history behind them. Its hard to find antique stores of this value anymore, let alone feel like your are at home while shopping. I find it extra special to be able to walk into a store these days and get the customer service and authentic connection as we did at L'Enfant Gallery. I highly recommend visiting and exploring all floors. Take time and learn about what is sitting in front of your face. This place is simply a gem and truly inspires me to continue to collect fine objects and art. Cannot wait to visit again. Also, PETER, if you still have the bronze putti, I am still interested. Just need to call and make it happen. :)

Best gallery in Washington, despite being open for decades I would still consider this place a hidden gem.

My first visit to L'Enfant Gallery was many years ago with my husband, then boyfriend, to visit his friend, gallery owner Peter Colosante. It was such a fun day, admiring all of the beautiful art and antiques, as well as Peter's knowledge of everything in the gallery, and all of the stories about the history of the art. Thankfully we live in the neighborhood and that first visit was far from the last - I always love a good wander through! When we finished our Georgetown renovation, we turned to Peter and his team to help us curate art for our main level, especially the big space we wanted to fill in the entryway. The gallery team worked with us and brought over beautiful choices for us. We chose a gorgeous piece that has the presence to command the very large entry wall space, and sets the mood as you enter our home. We also bought a beautiful painting for the living room, as well as large vertical piece for the stair landing. We continue to add to our collection as we go, and most recently Peter and his team did a phenomenal job helping us with the master bedroom art. They listened to the vibe I wanted, colors, size, and even budget to put together a great selection of paintings. We then worked in the room together, hanging different combinations, as they helped me put together some beautiful tranquil choices. The Gallery team helped me hang my choices just right and I couldn't be happier with the art or the experience. In addition to shopping in store, I follow L'Enfant on social to keep up with the latest happenings, upcoming exhibits, reading up on history of highlighted pieces, etc. They're doing some great editorial style photography showing off the creativity of the team and partners as well as the art. You can also get great info on upcoming events. We did the "cocktail in the window" in December which was fabulous. Freezing, sleeting night, but a warm glow at L'Enfant Gallery with a jazz singer, pianist, and a mixologist, as we all gathered to listen to the music and the talk about cocktails and culture, surrounded by beautiful art.. We heard about how to make an amazing Manhattan and a great toast. Oh, yes, and we all drank a Manhattan! Any residual chill was gone..... I'll keep my eye on events going forward for certain, and as always, keep stopping in to browse, and catch up with Peter and team.

In Washington, DC, where I live, it’s said that one visits the Smithsonian museums and afterward goes to L’Enfant, for in this gallery of antiques and art one can see and feel treasures of similar historic importance. L’Enfant Gallery is, at this point, as much a Washington institution as the museums of the Smithsonian are. In every way this exceptional shop reflects the brilliance and embracing spirit of its owner, Peter Colosante, who welcomes ALL into this world-class emporium. Peter reflects the democratic ideals of our nation’s capital in his warm and welcoming manner, always delighted to share the often bizarre stories of his treasures’ provenance. I’m a customer of the gallery, yes—I’ve bought everything from furniture to 16th century imperial seals and modernist art there—but I’m also a friend, because Peter and his staff are irresistible and we share passion for history, objects of excellence and the stories that come with them. Living in Washington, DC is a richer experience with the L’Enfant Gallery.

I have gotten to know L’Enfant Gallery as an essential fixture in our Georgetown small business community. Peter, the owner, cares deeply about creating a safe and welcoming space, not only to shop for a diverse array of art and antiques, but also for artists to create within the gallery. I attended an incredible woman-led panel conversation “Art as Resistance” for the opening of their Wall of Women exhibition. I have also enjoyed how the gallery has used their storefront window as a living stage during Art All Night, Fall Market, and more- welcoming artists to create and perform. I had the pleasure of hosting a Dinner in the Window at the gallery to highlight our restaurant community in Georgetown. L’Enfant is a true partner for the arts and I would recommend engaging with them more, whether it is hosting an event, enjoying their diverse programming, or shopping their collection.
