Edit, response to the owner: The issue here is your conduct. When presented with a clear, evidenced concern, your team responded evasively, failed to address the issues or safeguard others, and instead attacked my character. The exchange was with the London Shambhala Meditation Centre, not Shambhala International. The event is still advertised at your venue, and in correspondence you confirmed your team managed the hire. Your own site links to the Shambhala Code of Conduct, which states: “The Code of Conduct applies to everyone present in any activity associated with Shambhala, in person or online, regardless of where the activity occurs.” By that standard, you cannot disclaim responsibility for events at your centre. Your choices raise serious questions about your approach to safeguarding. These concerns have already been raised with you repeatedly by email, without a proper response. Instead of further private discussions, you are welcome to update your response and reply here. Original review: I found the Shambhala Centre’s handling of a serious safeguarding concern deeply irresponsible. I alerted them to an upcoming event led by a practitioner with a recent record of abusive and harmful behaviour. I offered evidence from three people including a third-party witness and the organiser themselves. Instead of addressing the concern, the Centre attacked my character and are allowing the event to go ahead. Given the long, well documented history of abuse in this organisation, and the pattern of discrediting people who raise concerns, I was left with the impression that this is still their normal response. I do not believe the Shambhala Centre takes safeguarding seriously. I would urge anyone considering attending to be aware of the history. It’s easy to find more details with an internet search.

I tried meditation several times and never really got it until I did a course at the Shambala centre. Since then I’ve done a couple of their longer meditation courses, have attended a day retreat and one of the mindful movement mornings as well as attending the drop in evening meditations now and then. The welcome is always friendly and the space is calm. The sessions and courses are well-led and there’s always something interesting on offer. I love the fact that there’s such a mix of ages and experience at the drop in sessions. I come away feeling re-focussed and motivated to keep up my meditation practice. I only wish I could get there regularly.

It's a very unique and peaceful space, where I found meditation and mindfullness was easy for me. I really enjoyed the peace and the calm. On my last visit I also tried a relaxing massage there as they have brand new therapist named Marcela. This was an amazing blissful experience, which I really enjoyed. I will definitely be visiting again soon when time allows.

This place is truly lovely and unique, as a newbie and religious / spiritual outsider, I was understandably nervous about my visit, but was immediately made to feel very welcome and even joined in with the meditation session and celebration of the founding birthday too!!, the facilities are fantastic and the atmosphere of warmth, joy and openness is palpaable from the moment you enter. - fantastic, long may it persist in a world that is transient and passing so short. :)

Learning to meditate is indispensable. I have been attending the London Shambhala centre for over ten years. This is an excellent Buddhist place where new and experienced meditators alike can sit together. On Monday and Wednesday evenings they have drop in classes.
