I wanted to like this place, I really did. The book selection was fantastic, and the prices were fair. However, when I first walked into the shop months ago, one older woman was scrambling to do everything herself. Not only were her other staff not present on time to help her, but they called her on the phone while she was in the middle of trying to help the customers in the store. Later on, I, not knowing the store well, accidentally wandered into a section where books were still being sorted to be sold. I saw the labels and thought it was just an overflow section. An older man (who must have been one of the other staff members) was extremely rude and condescending towards me and shooed me away from the section as if I were a wayward sheep. He was not at all understanding that I was new to the shop, even though I told him it was my first time here. In fact, his tone was almost accusatory, as if I should have known that I was venturing into the wrong section. The wall didn't have any clear indication that books were not for sale, and it was within the customer section, OUTSIDE of the staff only signs. If you want to sell your books here, you won't get cash for them. You only get credit towards the store. And, you can only use HALF that credit towards new purchases, which feels very defeating. On top of that, the prices here are on par OR more expensive than Half Price. I spent way more than I had wanted to on two books, and was already humiliated from my experience, so I didn't feel like telling them I didn't want the books anymore. I would recommend staff in the shop being more personable. The sheer humiliation I felt from that one experience is what has kept me from coming back. Plus, I have found an amazing amount of books for far less at local thrift shops, and even in Half Price in their clearance section. Maybe I'll check out the Oak Cliff location, but this one, I most likely won't be returning to anytime soon.
Finally got the chance to visit and really loved this gem of a place! Easy to spend a couple hours exploring everything. I was even able to find a book on my list (with the help of a worker, thank you again) and try out some cookies ^^ 10/10, will definitely visit again when I get the chance.
Such an amazing and unique store! My husband and I love going to bookstores and this is definitely in our top 3. Don’t let the store front fool you because this is a store that feels endless and you find a great selection of books old and new.
such a gem. I swear, if the apocalypse happens and our digital world comes to an end, people will be flocking here - it’s a gold mine. took my film camera in and snapped some b&w photos of the charm of this place. best part is there’s plenty of nooks and crannies with seating so you can lose yourself in a read for hours. friendly staff, very knowledgeable.
Great book store! It looks small on the outside but the inside has so many different rooms and so much to explore. Could spend hours in here. Will be coming back!
