I’m not even sure how I came across Magellan but I wish I had found them years ago! My son has challenges in school but particularly with math. Unfortunately as he’s progressed in school, I’ve become less helpful when it comes to math. I was matched with Nathalie from the beginning and her profile was impressive, but even more impressive was the way she was able to explain and breakdown the material for my son and have the patience of a saint. My son’s teacher noticed an almost immediate improvement and for the first time ever, my son is actually gaining confidence in a subject he’s always hated. We have tried other “math focused” tutoring services before that were more expensive, less flexible hours and less effective. Magellan was so easy to set up, everyone is so responsive and I believe we were matched and had our first trial session within a week. Value is phenomenal for this area and in addition to my membership, I’ve been able to buy additional hours as needed (and they are worth every penny.) I’m not sure if it’s just my experience, since the first suggested tutor was literally the most perfect match, but the flexibility and convenience with tutoring sessions has really helped to alleviate stress of getting to a center during restricted hours. All this to say, I could not possibly recommend Magellan (and Nathalie) enough. If feasible, I would love to continue services next year when my son attends college.

We have been very happy with the tutoring services provided by Magellan. They supported our twins in the past who are now successful college students and currently our youngest daughter is getting support for high school level chemistry and geometry. I highly recommend Magellan Tutoring!

We used Magellan Tutoring and one of their SAT experts, Adam Purucker, for in-person SAT preparation and my son raised his score by 140 points! After he took a group class with another SAT prep company, we realized it wasn’t a great fit. The group/online format wasn’t engaging enough. We decided an in-person tutor was the best way for him to remain engaged and have personalized attention. Magellan Tutoring was one of the few SAT prep companies to offer in-person services in the Northern Virginia area. In my research, Magellan offered the most affordable and flexible plans which included in-person sessions and access to their online platform. Our son met with Adam in our home for an hour twice a week for about two months and used Magellan’s online test prep/sample exams. After the first month, my son took his first SAT, scoring over a 1300. This was great, but he felt he could improve so he continued sessions. Adam was knowledgeable and patient in the sessions and provided an in-depth review of problem areas. This increased my son’s confidence and he improved his score by 140 points when he retook the SAT exam a few weeks later. The Magellan staff were also very helpful throughout the tutoring process and they were always accessible if a question arose. I rarely write reviews, but I highly recommend Magellan Tutoring and Adam Purucker for SAT prep!

I hired Magellan Tutors for my 5th grade daughter. The placement process was easy and personal. We got matched with a great tutor who was able to come to our home and work with her once a week. I felt the pricing was fair and scheduling was super easy. I would absolutely recommend Magellan Tutors to anyone looking for some supplemental help for their child.

We have been using Magellan Tutoring for about two years now, and our tutor, Kris, is amazing! I have seen the fruits of Kris's and my child's labor. Kris makes sure to mix fun and learning with a treat at the end of the session. And it's working! My child's county test scores have noticeably improved, and their teachers have also seen some progress. Thanks to Kris & Magellan Tutoring!!!
