STAY AWAY FROM THIS "CPA"!! I hired Marty for my business tax return and experienced nothing but problems throughout the process. Poor communication and poor customer service was the last thing I expected after paying Marty a premium price ($3000 for 2017 return and $300/mo IN ADVANCE for the 2018 return) for what should have been a fairly simple tax return . Marty and his firm failed to pay attention to any of the information that was given to them, they overlooked a $70,000 write off that was specifically pointed out to them in advance, filed for an extension over a month late (costing me a $400 penalty which they would never address despite numerous emails and messages left) and threatened to cancel their services the first time I expressed any frustration. Mind you they were informed in early February that I was in the process of buying a home therefore filing on time was crucial. On 2/13/18 Marty let me know that they had began working on the return. One month later on 3/13/18 he emailed to say he was running behind and would be filing an extension (deadline is 3/15/18 for an S Corp extension). On 3/27/18 he emailed to say that the return would be completed and sent for review within 2 days. 6 days later I received the return which was missing $70,000 in depreciation write offs and had mistakes where he "assumed" that partial taxes had been paid mid year, mind you he never asked, he just input numbers he thought should go there. 4/9/18 I confirmed that all revisions were correct and that I was approving the revised return to be filed, Marty said he would get it done (We were scheduled for closing by the end of April and Marty knew this). 9 DAYS LATER I get an email confirming that an EXTENSION (not the return) was filed on 4/17, 34 days after he initially claimed an extension would be filed, and 32 days after the deadline to file an S Corp extension. This is when I began to really question his abilities and his word. Marty had no concern for my business or personal needs and he had no concern for how this was going to affect my home purchase. On 4/18 Marty said he would E-file the return the next morning and scheduled a call for 4/23 to go over my concerns. He skipped the call on 4/23 and never filed the return on 4/19 despite sending an email claiming he had. My return wasn't actually filed until 4/27/18, 73 DAYS AFTER he began working on it, and only 1 day before closing on our new home. Marty was paid over $4000 for his services and fell short every step of the way. On 8/13 I received a letter from the IRS letting me know that Marty never filed the proper forms for our business classification. When contacted, Marty initially said he would resubmit the forms but then never followed up with us. We had to reach out to the IRS directly to resolve the issue. On 10/18 I received a letter from the IRS that Marty had failed to file the return or the extension on time and that I owed a fine of $400. Marty was emailed and called and I left messages with his secretary. He never responded to me in any way. This should tell you everything you need to know about his professionalism. We only hired Marty because he claimed to specialize in business taxes and we wanted someone knowledgeable to make sure we didn't have simple mistakes and screw ups. In the end I could have gotten better service from H&R Block for a lot less money and stress. SAVE YOUR MONEY & AVOID THIS "CPA"!!! EDIT: 12/13/18: Please see the comment below from the owner as support for everything written above. Not once does he refute a single incident or mistake, he only claims that he saved us money. Never mind the fact that the only reason the return saved us money was because we made Marty go back and fix all of his costly mistakes prior to filing. If we had filed the return Marty sent for review it would have cost us thousands. Marty, you did not save us anything, your negligence cost us time, and almost cost us a lot of money. Don't you dare try to take credit for savings that occurred as a result of us correcting your mistakes.
